Maybe - it's what gives it a rise and holds it together. Maybe some baking powder to rise it and something else to bind it?

I think flax meal added might make the texture funny on this - though if you used the goop (sorry, you know the slime that comes off when it's soaked in water - that people use to substitute for eggs? Very technical of me ), it might be ok.
