Difficulty getting blood is usually related to the patients hydration status. Squeezing is pretty typical. You can keep your fingers pointed down so the blood pulls in them. Labs usually have a heating pad which helps. Drinking half a liter plain water before any blood draq will make it easier on you.

I just remembered I got the count down idea from the book Life Without Bread. I get low blood sugar with unsweetened coffee.
