Just an idea that hit me, if you are simply doing it to stay away, perhaps you can take up a gum chewing habit. I use to chew a lot of gum. Maybe get some sugar free varieties with intense flavors.
Eating food to stay away just doesn't compute in my brain for some reason. that's a bear of a commute, I hope you find a good solution and I wish you well!
