Smile hi Edwina, welcome aboard

Yes, working out will definitely be a boon, not just for weight loss, but for the diabetes too. Quite a few lowcarbing diabetics are able to achieve good control with the diet. Soon, you may find you no longer need to check your blood sugar after eating too many of the wrong carbs. You'll become much more sensitive to sugar and processed starches, and you'll be able to "feel" the surge happen. I'm not diabetic, but I can really feel a buzz when I eat a sweet, even a so-called sugarFREE sweet. And of course, that buzz is followed by a low-bleacchhh feeling. Good reinforcement for NOT indulging too often ..

Take care, and keep us posted of your continued success.
