I guess I was always curious, but it looked too complicated with the calipers and the "ciphering"... this scale gives a quick, fairly accurate reading. It doesn't take any longer than weighing normally once you program in your height, age, and gender. It was under $50 and wouldn't you know it, right AFTER I bought it, another brand shows up at Target for $10 less...(I got mine at KMart.) <shrug> I'm very pleased with it. It's accurate, consistant, weighs to the tenth-pound, AND has buttons to play with! I love gadgets....
