"dd"

One of the things I have found on the diet is the death of sugar craving. I can now walk past cake shops without batting an eyelid and have resisted the first Greek family party laden with home made cakes dripping with syrup. One of the things my husband and I have found very useful have been the diabetic sweets "DD" found in most chemists and supermarkets. These are sweetened with Isomaltilol which is one of the sweeteners that does not affect blood sugar and they have no carbs (7 calories per sweet). Whenever I get sick of savoury things like meat etc I pop one of these in (apple and blackcurrant is particularly good). They are also very useful if, like me, you occasionally eat something with higher carbs than you were expecting and get that sugar crave and hour or so later. I get by on two or three a day. (Too many can act as a laxative, they warn, but on Induction this might be a blessing!!!)

Hi Donna,

You are very lucky that you can eat the DD lollies.

However, not everyone can. Sugar alcohols, such as maltitol, isomaltitol etc, do indeed affect the blood sugars of some people. If you conduct a search here you'll find a very mixed response as to how people cope with them.

Personally, I get a huge belly ache, and so leave them alone.

If anyone would like more information on sugar alcohols, go to "low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of the screen.

Donna, please don't misunderstand me. I'm happy for you that you have found a useful tool in your LC WOL. I just feel the need to point out to others reading this that the sugar alcohols are very much a YMMV issue. ;)
