Back After Long Absence

Hi friends! I'm back after a long absence of giving up on low carb and a long plateau. I went the OA way and while I have a much better attitude about food and a good body image, I've not lost much weight since August and well, what's the point? So I want to combine low carb with my "plan of eating" in OA. This isn't encouraged nor is any "diet" plan but it's my body, my life, and on low carb I lost and kept off 35 lbs for 1.5 years. I have food that fit with my OA plan remaining in my fridge that I can't just throw away; we simply do not throw food away, can't afford to! So I'm going to have about a week of carb attack before I can really restart. I've found some shopping lists online that look simple and plain, no weird expensive food. I wondered if anyone kept count of calories and exercise? I did last time and it was pretty interesting. Also, do you do OA as well as low carb and what do you think of the premises of that program? Do they dovetail? I want to lose 20 lbs to be at my goal. Thank you for your time reading me!

Welcome back TrappaOne and best wishes!

Yesterday I was at the library working on my resume and it dawned on me I'm losing weight sitting at the library. I'm not doing anything special, eating what I want to eat and I don't have the feeling I'm on a diet. I keep a running total on my daily carb intake. I plan to do the same in maintenance. Being satiated and eating healthy foods is natural, no craziness or pressure.

How about peanut butter?

If you're somebody who can have a tablespoon of peanut butter as part of a snack or meal, and not go back for more, it's probably okay. I have a lot of foods that I do just fine with if I've been eating a very strict ketogenic diet, but that are dangerous to have in the cupboard for a while if I go off plan--like I did at Christmas.

Being tired is also a problem for me, I've had a jar of peanut butter and stuck to an ounce a day for a week or so, and then had one night where I was short on sleep--and ended up in a binge.

I ate pbutter the whole time I was losing but it caused me to gain during maintaince. It created a carb and cal. creep because I was nolonger measuring out a level spoonful and stopping at that

I totally relate to the Hungry-Angry-Lonely-Tired acronym for indulging when I should stay away from any trigger food. Thank you for the reminder. I put the jar behind another jar and hopefully will forget about it.

It took me a while to understand the mental AND physical effects of how I ate and what triggered bingeing. OA is great for the first, but I don't think they understand the second the way low carb plans do.

I don’t know much about OA but on their website it says: “. For weight loss, any medically approved eating plan is acceptable.”

Since quite a few doctors these days medically approve of LC I don’t know why that wouldn’t be acceptable! And yes, control over food can certainly have a spiritual/emotional component but I believe the physiological component is much stronger. Surely an eating plan that gives you more control over what you eat ought to be encouraged. 😀
