I'm so psyched that I found you!

Omg, I can't believe I'm not crazy in thinking that lo-carb was an answer for my pcos! When I read Atkins book it seemed that he was writing specifically for me, but he never mentioned pcos. He did, however, mention glucophage, which my fertility doc put me on about a year ago. HORRIBLE diarrhea for six months, with terrible stomach cramps.

I gave up the fertility and adopted, and have a gorgeous baby boy (6 months old) named Isaac. I've never heard of the Metformin and am psyched to find out about it.

I need to read all your posts and get caught up, then call my doctor! Btw, I diagnosed myself when I was 35 years old. No one else had ever caught it! I'm so excited that I'm rambling - sorry! One quick question - does the Metformin help at all with the excess hair? If not, anyone know of anything that does? Thanks!

Amazing

Today is the first day I have ever heard of PCOS and now I see there is a section on here for it! I didnt have the infertility problems, but acne, excess hair growth, irregular periods and being overweight are all things I have been dealing with as long as I can remember. I will definately be asking my doctor about it!

I too am interested if the medication would help deminish the excess hair growth. Electrolysis was expensive and didnt work for me.

Hi girls

I hope I can help...

Metformin: won't help with facial hair (or loss of it on head) however it can help you lose weight, and become regular (periods) again. My diarhea wasn't bad. I hardly had any, so it really depends on the person.

I did however hear of a medication for hair growth/loss but i can't remember the name. My RE had mentioned it to me. But she didn't put me on it because I'm TTC, and it could be dangerous. However if I were you, I'd go check out this website and they probably name it several times in there and they also have an area specifically for hirtuism.

By the way, it's also a website specifically for women with PCOS, so feel free to check it out!!!

Thanks!

Thankyou so much Gracia for that lead to the website. I will print off some information and take it to my doctor next time I go.

Luckily my facial hair is blonde, so not so noticable, but still I hate it. :(
