OMG cravings and self-depriving

So I had to give up dairy because of health issues, and I feel a lot better (scary how sick you can get without realizing it huh?) but its been about a week now and I have the strangest cravings for crunchy, deep fried food! I NEVER crave stuff like that anymore... oh and fried noodles! Anyone else ever have that happen? Give up one thing and crave something completely different? Oh and since I stopped with the dairy, that means my Whey shakes for morning, night, and post workout are out. -_- devastating. anyone know of any low carb, whey free, fast absorbing sources of protein, either in shakes or food? So far I've just been winging it, eating... stuff.. but eventually I want to have my regular post workout food set up. I googled but all I could find was vegan protein powder made of ..rice? lol. and hemp, peas.. all things I doubt are low carb. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :D

I crave depravity too sometimes.

Actually, I find a good lemon egg custard takes care of a lot of my depravity.

Ah darn, I liked the first title best. It really caught my eye.

I really like a thread that contains mention of depravity and lemon custard!

LitaC Tue, Jan-17-12 15:22

you know..depravity actually could have worked... sorta ;)

Anyway, to get back to your original question, I was pretty serious about the lemon custard. Whenever I feel a craving that I'm afraid might turn into an indulgence of something bad, I turn to something else I am very fond of, which happens to be LC lemon custard, but it might be something else for you.

I usually make a cup of tea, or chew a piece of gum. I thought it was weird that all of the sudden I wanted these things, even though I haven't had them or wanted them in over a year.. I think it's just so extreme cutting out dairy like I did and my brains trying to figure out why I did it lol. :D

Nancy's idea for a creamy texture is good. I also make a tapioca-like textured pudding with chia seeds

I satisfy my desires for crunchy/fried texture & taste with roast chicken skin. I started with store-bought rotisserie chicken but wanted to be sure of the contents of the toppings and also save money by buying chicken w/skin only when it is on sale, so I bought an infrared/convection Flavorwave Turbo tabletop "oven" (on sale for nearly half price) so I can have roast chicken thighs, backs & legs with their skin browned & crisped to perfection whenever I want. It cooks twice as fast and cleanup is easier than using a regular oven. I just add a bit of salt and crunch!

My 20-year old cat goes wild for roast chicken too.

I like to chew and crush ..nuts are my go to if I need the calories..as opposed to tea or gum when I just want a cookie but know better..crunchy things are more satisfing to me. It also satisfies my hand-to-mouth reflex, but since I can't eat all the time, usually ends up being my nails :/ I think my cravings recently are actually the result of my candida detox...boooo

For protein before and after a workout, try BCAAs. The amino acids in them are key to protein synthesis.

I googled this a bit right after I saw it, does it just work along with the food I already eat? Or do I still need a post workout meal? I'll continue to look things up, but I'd love more feedback. Clearly, I'm not as good at Internet research as I thought I was, or I would have already found BCAA's :P

Okay I think I got it all now. This article breaks it down well enough for even me to understand :P.

Vega shakes are soy free, sugar free other than stevia and plant based in the protein source. The lowest carb I found during my investigation into finding a soy free low/lower carb shake. It's six grams carb net per 8 oz shake, IIRC. I only ever tried the chai tea flavor and the taste was...okay.

If a slightly slimy texture squiks you out (there are far worse shake offenders here, including the Atkins brand ones), it may not work. They do sell by singles, so you could try out before investing in a full-sized canister.

The only thing is if you are sensitive to, or develop a sensitivity to, the chlorella in it that's all she wrote as the such causes acute vomiting and diarrhea within a couple hours of ingestion. :(
