I just wanted to say hello and say thank you for accepting me to the forum.

I did Atkins many years ago, and can't recall why I stopped it, but have decided to give it another go as I was back at my highest weight again (16 stone 3lbs) and feeling breathless on walking and hating what I was seeing in the mirror. Also my brother has just been diagnosed as having cardiac failure and I realised it's time to take control of myself and get weight off before I head the same way.

I live in the Scottish Borders, so if anyone else is from around here - I'd live to hear from you.

Good Morning Bordertart, and welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place. And I think you will find many of us have tried LC and stopped for unknown reason, I know I have. But, for me there is no denying how much better I feel in general with this way of eating. I have to ignore the comments from my DH because he chooses not to accept this and actually feels that I am hurting myself. oh well, I can't change how he feels can I? At 65 this is for me and this is the last time I am going up and back down this road. Please stop by my journal sometime, I love company, have a positive day and remember one day at a time. ttyl

You have found a great forum with both information and support. Noticed you have a new edition of the Atkins book. My caution about that one is to avoid the meal plans that are filled with Atkins bars and prepared foods as many people find those stall weight loss. They also have an Meal Plan in the new edition that is all real food and better as a guideline.

Thank you for replies, welcoming comments and advice, Janet and Zoogirl.

I'm on now on Day four and struggled a wee bit yesterday after being ask out for a meal - I checked the menu online in advance and thought I'd planned well, only to discover they had changed the menu. I asked them to tweak the choice I made but still didn't feel in control. Onwards and upwards though.

I am struggling to find if British sausages fit into the eating plan as I bought gluten free pork ones yesterday thinking I was making a good decision (didn't have my glasses with me to read the small print) and now see they have rice and potato starch in them so have stuck them in the freezer for my hubby to eat.

I'm finding the new edition of Atkins more tricky than I remembered as I could eat unlimited cream and meat last time (I think that's right) but am now having to measure and weigh things, but guess it will improve in time once I get used to it. I have bought a few bars for emergencies only and hope not to need to use them.

The shortest list of Atkins rules was in the first 1972 edition...and we have a Hard Core 1972 Buddy group that has all the info in the first post and they offer enthusiastic active support. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=474032 read all the links on #2 and add any questions on that thread for good advice. :thup:

However, even in that first edition there was a 4 tsp limit on cream, and every edition since has had some amount restriction, usually around 2-3Tb. It's the rule most commonly forgotten, especially when the cheesecake and mousse recipes are found. :lol:

There are many recipes taking ground pork and adding your favorite spices for a simple sausage patty.
