Atkins for a middle-aged busy guy

Time to shed some pounds. Annoying people are commenting, "you've gained weight". The occasional belly rub from friends. (Like I am Santa Claus). I've been stressed and busy and eating late at night. Stress wont ever end ... so I am not going to use that excuse.

So here I go. I started "ramping up" my Atkins' meals in the last week. And I tested my urine at work today.

:cheer: 2+ ketones :) Yeah for ketosis.

Going to buy a 24 of eggs.
I asked my wife to get a pot roast for the slow cooker.
Gotta get more chicken strips as I used alot for my lunch today. Salad and greasy chicken strips.

== Food plans ==
Lots of eggs.
Lots of chicken

What kind of strips are those? Send info please! :) And Welcome (Back?)

VLC.MD Mon, Jun-05-17 12:42

Chemstrip 7 by Roche, 100 strips / bottle.

Thanks! Lots of stuff you can get an idea on from urine it seems. I'll keep a look-out for some.

I'm working pretty hard at things.
My non-Keto wife has forced me to do things myself.
Eggs in olive oil and Kale : hemp seed smoothies have been great starts to the day.
Then chicken salad for lunch.
I'm down 10 pounds and I haven't went up once ... yet.

Hey, welcome back, and congrats on the success thus far...you are not alone at having to battle this without support at home, just remember, you can't change how another person thinks or feels, and it doesn't matter anyway, all that matters is HOW YOU THINK AND FEEL, best of luck to you, drop by my journal sometime, ttyl

I keep mayo-based sauces in my fridge for dipping those greasy chicken strips in. I love the taste of chipotle, so I have a chipotle mayo. I love wasabi. Ditto with the sauce. Also curry. Fully cooked meat and fish products are readily available these days and I always have them on hand. Fresh-cut pico de gallo is also a go-to.

Yesterday I combined some left-over roasted chix with pico de gallo, mayo and curry powder. Yum, and the remainder is sitting in the fridge for when I get hungry today.

You can do this if you really want to, and nobody controls what goes into your mouth but you.

Good progress. Stay the course, and you'll find how easy it is to develop a routine that can be followed long term.

Food for thought: LCHF is cheaper than Atkins because meat is expensive

GRB5111 Wed, Jun-28-17 13:20

You'll likely find that over time, the quantity of food consumed on LCHF or Atkins diminishes, which also favors lower costs. I get full on less and, therefore, eat a lot less than when I was a high carber.
