New to forum - Hi!

Hi New Friends!

I'm 7 months in to my low carb journey. I started with Atkins, and I mostly had their bars and meals because I can't cook. I've had amazing success, and my type 2 diabetes has resolved (cured? remission?)! My insulin has come down, but it is still not where I would like it to be yet. I've recently made some changes to my diet in order to get that down. I'm going to miss my Atkins bars! I have so many of them, but I need to get that insulin under control

I'm eager to hear from others and meet some like-minded friends. I recently attended LowCarbUSA in San Diego, and I'm really enjoying meeting folks from my new community.

Looking forward to connecting.
Leann

Welcome Leann,

You have had amazing success, congrats! and how lucky that you were able to attend LowCarbUSA. I follow Dr. Westman's clinic plan if you had the chance to see his talks there and go to the break-out session on small groups. Although he co-authored the New Atkins book, his own clinic plan is very simple and the ingredients and carbs in an Atkins bar rules them out. I do not use the shakes either, but he has said those do not cause stalls as much and some people can keep them as a snack. You might find the Diabetes forum of help with insulin. http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=45
There is a Quick Meals section in Recipes: http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=40
Look around. Let us know how we can help. All the best,

hello and welcome. The user Froka here http://forum.lowcarber.org/showpost...2&postcount=705

... also attended LowCarbUSA in San Diego - I saw that mention in her journal. Maybe you can compare notes. She saw some of the top names in LC that come up here on this bulletin board.

Thanks for links, welcome, and support! I'm finding my way around, and the links are very helpful.

Janet, I not only saw Dr Westman's session, I got to sit with him at dinner on the first evening. I asked him all kinds of questions. His help prompted me to stop counting net carbs and keep my protein within the needed range for my body. Other folks at the table convinced me that intermittent fasting would help reset things and contribute greatly to lowering my insulin response. Since I've been home, I've done two 24 hour fasts and just wrapped up a 36 hour fast this morning. It sure helped my stalled weight loss, but the key for me will really be my next insulin blood draw and also CRP coming down.

Janet, I read on another thread that you've maintained for 7 years? That's awesome and inspiring!

Zoo girl I will definitely get over to your journal. Thanks for the motivation.

Thud thanks for the reference to Froka. Maybe we met!

Lucky again to sit with him at dinner! I too started with NANY but switched after my appointment to the simplier clinic plan. You then likely met a number of people from NC I know in addition to Dr Westman...Casey Durango, Kristie Sullivan, Jess Dudley from Atlanta, etc....all have FB pages you could follow too. This forum does not support extended fasts, but the information on Intermittent Fasting is here: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=472377
To see any member's profile, tap/click on their user name. Information and gallery of photos found there.
My insulin has been under 5 for years, though it is easily manipulated by short-term foods, once back up to 9 for some unknown reason, and once below "low end of normal" because it followed a longer fast. Since I'm 66 and have some joint inflammation, have stopped doing the hs-CRP. That picks up any and all inflammation anywhere in body, not necessarily heart related. Some doctors call it a solution in search of a problem, see previous thread. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=447973
Ps: regular search box is disabled. Use "Advanced Search" under it and watch the dates, 15 year old forum drags up some long ago threads.

welcome, my goal is to get healthy....

LowCarbLea Tue, Aug-15-17 07:03

Yes, Casey was at our table too; she's the one who shared the IF stories. I'm not a huge fan of FB, so I may not get over there.

Robyn - great goal! Mine too!!

I'm really really ;) not a fan of FB but the Durham support group made that the only way to communicate about meetings, so i follow a few of the related sites. But not to worry, all those plugged in social media folks have websites, YouTubes and Pinterest too. All three of these older women have inspiring stories.
