Too much heavy whipping cream
I have been doing a lchf diet for about 2 months. I lost a lot of weight last year using the old starvation method. (65 lbs.) I wanted to do something that was more healthy and sustainable. I have gained back 8 lbs since I started. Probably too much hwc and I am at 23 BMI. I will be interested to see if my weight will become stable now that I have my cream under control.
I am using a good food log and keeping under 20 carbs most of the time. |
Welcome to the forum, Stan. Do you have a written set of guidelines for your diet?
|
If you used low calorie to lose weight and then switched to LCHF, then its possible that weight gain is the muscle mass you lost while eating low calorie, which is actually a good thing - have your measurements changed?

my lost weight
I think you are right. My daughter sthought I had lost too much in my face. My measurements have grown an inch or so at the waist and my face is not looking so gaunt to them. I am just doing this because I believe this is a very proper and healthy diet so I am not upset at my present weight.

I do have a good set of guidelines and so I think I am in good shape. :)

Welcome to the forums, Stan!
Good for you for not freaking out at your body trying to re-establish a healthy weight after being deprived on a lowcal diet! |
Thanks for the welcomes. I have done scores of hours of study on the internet researching lchf. This really is the best forum, full of great info and very welcoming!

Happy & Dubious
As the title says, I love this new way to eat. I'm following the guide from www.dietdoctor.com. But half of me is terrified. I'm now one week old.
I did Atkins in 2002, but did not fully understand about eating fat and that dietary cholesterol is good. This time I'm literally going about this by following directions to the T. I seem to have gained a couple lbs., but will not give up until I've got a month under my belt to reassess. What I have noticed is that I feel better, have more energy, and amazingly, have no desire or craving for the carbs. For the past two years, I've followed the advice of portion control, low fat, healthy carbs. In the first year I lost 50 lbs., and my LDL is now at 130, and my HDL is at 65. My doctor is very happy with my progress. But this whole last year has seen pretty much nothing where my weight loss is concerned. I need to lose another 40 lbs. I am currently 185, female, 58yrs, 5'3". I play racquetsports, race dragonboats, walk, etc. So, I need to know my weight gain is normal, that my meals are not heart attacks on plates, and that overdoing heavy whipped cream will not sabotage me. (At least dietdoctor.com says it won't.) I am less hungry, don't want as much, so something good is happening. Thanks for listening. I look forward to your support and inspiration. |
I've been eating this way for eight years now. 80% fat. And... loving it!

How much heavy cream do you allow yourself with your (obviously successful) way of eating? |
I have a couple of big cups of coffee and maybe 1/8 a cup of heavy cream for that?

Do you add cream to other dishes as well? I'm trying to get a picture of the max daily heavy cream intake I should try to limit myself to, including that for coffee & recipes for main meals & snacks. |
Leban, some people find that dairy, including heavy cream, interferes with weight loss. Others can eat dairy without problems.
If your weight loss has stalled, you might want to try cutting down on the amount of heavy cream you allow yourself each day...not because its going to do your heart any harm- I don't think there is ANY solid evidence that it will - but simply because it may be keeping you from losing the weight you want to lose. If you're generally using a cup of heavy cream per day, try limiting yourself to 1/2 cup per day and see if you start losing weight again. If so, once you get to your goal weight, you can start slowly adding more heavy cream back to your diet. The one thing we do learn on this forum is that while there seems to be some general "guidelines" to LCHF that apply reasonably broadly across the board, every single body is different! What works perfectly for one person might not work for another. Thus while we can get some guidance from each other's experience, ultimately each of us have to figure out our own journey. |
