Is Vodka ok with Candida?
 

I have just been diagnosed with psoriasis/arthritis based candidia. Trying to get a handle on the diet and was wondering if Vodka is ok. I've read on a few diet websites that Vodka and Gin are one are the only alcohols ok on occasion and wanted to see if this was accurate.

I would like to know the answer to this one as well. Most of the sites I saw said no alcohol at all.

Also if it was safe, what in the world could you use as a mixer?

I have never heard of any alocohol being safe on candida. I try to stay away from any gray areas. But if vodka was ok you could make your own lemonade slushy with stevia, ice, and lemons.....(one can dream) ;)

So far I have found several pages that go both ways. Some say no alcohol what so ever. Others say that you can have up to 2oz weekly but only of a clear alcohol such as high quality vodka or gin.

It could be one of those "your mileage may vary" issues. Almost all of the diets recomend to cut out sugar no matter what. Where the diets differ is in what is allowed depending on the severity of your candida overgrowth and what your particular food sensitivities are.

Basically some people can have vodka and be fine, while other's will notice symptoms the next day. Some people can eat a small amount of fruit, or small amounts of dairy like cottage cheese with no problems. It all depends on the person and the individual needs.

My doctor's elimination plan says that when an occasional drink is desired, Vodka is the best choice. It doesn't say why, but I'd imagine that the above information would be the reason. I think it might be the least femented??

Vodka is definitely a better choice (as well as gin) over other alcohols. When I have a drink (like New Years or a special occasion), I usually mix vodka with sparkling water (Calistoga: lemon or lime flavored) and throw in a lemon or lime wedge. Not completely terrible.

It's ok, but most prefer a robust red wine with their Candida. :D

Vodka is less likely to have added sugars. Try Sky brand lemon vodka :D yummmmmm!

Reminds me...when I was ignoring the candida and just LCing, I made the yummiest gin and heavy cream drinks.

I can't get to my recipes in MC Word right now b/c of computer problems and I also recently lost my favorites...

I can't remember the recipe off the top of my head, but check out the ones below. Hope you find something that works! I didn't think I'd like gin with artificial sweetners, but I did.

My all time favorite gin drink is a Salty Dog, but it's made different that recipes I see online or in books. I LOVE salt and lemon juice...

Here's my Salty Dog recipe made in an 8-12 oz glass (a juice glass maybe?)

make 3 layers of ice and salt to the top of the glass.
pour in juice of 1 to 1.5 lemons
add about as much gin as lemon juice, or a little more
fill rest of glass with club soda
stir gently
enjoy!
(add more of any/all ingredients to taste.)

Sorry it's not much of a scientific recipe, I don't go by a written recipe. If I don't get it right the first time, I just alter it until it's to my liking.

SO the Distilled spirits which do not have added carbs or sugars will LOWER your blood sugar, making them medicinal against yeast! :D!!! :thup:
