New to site

I have tried a number of diets and have failed at each. I am trying low carb once again. I need suggestions as to which plan to use. Any suggestions as to what I need to do to get started?

Welcome to the board, Kat!

We have a subforum where different plans are described that you might find useful in order to decide which appeals most to you and aligns best with your preferred way of eating.

Once you find which plan suits you best then get hold of the book for it and read up thoroughly to prepare you properly.

Many of the main lowcarb plans have their own subforums where you can get to know who else here follows "your" plan and be able to ask any questions or give support to other likeminded members.

Welcome!

Pick something that works for you. A combination of plans like I do. Just jump in with both feet and see what fits. :D

Welcome! My suggestions are:

- Purge your living/working area of temptations, as much as possible. Yes, throw that crap out or give it away.

- Plan. Learn. Plan.
Plan what to do when cravings/temptations hit.
Learn what went wrong when you mess up.
Plan a strategy for dealing with it next time.

- Stay active in the forum. Learn from others's mistakes then you won't have to make your own.

- Cook. Eat. Enjoy.
Didn't Atkins go on and on about how luxurious the LC diet was? It is! Go get those forbidden fatty foods like cream, butter, and such and start to enjoy the fact they're not verboten, but actually encouraged. Yum!

- Read about getting enough salt.
Right in my signature is an important thread about getting enough salt. It'll help your transition to fat burning.

Hello and welcome! Glad to have you join us.
I agree with the above posters - research what plan you'd like to do (or try- sometimes people switch to something that works better for them) - get the book and make it your bible. It took me several read thrus to get the "rules" of my plan down but it was worth it. Start a journal and visit other people's. There is a lot of information and inspiration in them. And people will visit you and help you.
Good luck,
Kat :)

Read as many books as you can get your hands on, and then read more. Also, read blogs and watch youtube videos having to do with lc.

For me personally, I'm a fan of the ketogenic diet with at least 70% fat calories. If you look at what 70% fat looks like, it's not that bad. Think of a ribeye steak.

I tend to go with the idea that the only time my ancestors ate sweets was 8-12 weeks out of the year when fruit was in season. I'm guessing that the rest of the year, they were probably eating mostly meat. I'll never know the exact answer, but this seems to make sense for me.
