First weeks success

I just started a low carb Ketogenic plan a week ago Monday. Limiting my net carbs to 20 or below. I was very nervous about weighing myself after completing the first week, but was pleasantly surprised! Went from 228 to 220 lbs! My initial goal is to get down to 200 lbs., but let's see how things are going when I get there. May want to drop a few more.
Even after completing one week, I feel better and seem to have more energy. I may have had a few mild symptoms of the Keto Flu last week, but nothing that got me down. Just felt like I had a fever for about a day. Looking forward to trying new recipies. I want to keep it exciting and not fall in to a routine of eating the same old things. Cant wait!

Hi Sam, welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you're off to a great start, losing 8 pounds in your first week. Well done! Just be prepared for a bit of slowdown at some point, though. The typical weight loss experience is a bit stop-start for a lot of people; it's important to remember to be patient if you don't lose so much in the next week, even if you feel you've done everything right.

There are plenty of recipe ideas out there, not just on this forum but also on Diet Doctor. Make yourself at home, have a look around and feel free to ask any questions you may have. We're here for each other.

Good luck.

Hey Sam ,

Just like you I dropped 8 pounds in 8 days. I thought, "man, I'll be done with this in no time!"...then went through a few "stalls" of not much fault of my own. It happens. But, I'm still losing after 3 months and right about 30 pounds off...20 pounds to go.

The cooking thing was especially hard for me. I love to cook and have been cooking a huge variety of stuff. It's been a little disappointing, half my meals are just average now, and some are still as awesome as ever. We had NY Strip steak and grilled/griddled asparagus last night with Bearnaise sauce (a sauce I never made before coming here, I used to make Hollandaise, but never put it on steak)...and it was fantastic. So there are some meals that are just like what we had before (we had stopped eating baked potatoes most of the time with steak years ago), but some cant be the same...like spaghetti and lasagna. Yes, you can do zucchini noodles, and vegetable lasagna and there are some other noddle substitutes out there, but just not the same. There are some new keto pastas and breads, but most of them are way too expensive right now.

Best of fortunes with your new diet!
