Morning run and food..

SO I have been running every morning about 3 miles up and down hill. I get up slap on my shoes and go and it seems like latey I have had less and less energy and my runs have suffered because of it. I read that you should eat first but wait an hour which I just dont have in the morning. I wonder if any of you grab a snack before your run, and what you grab. Most people I know say grab carbs but obviously that isnt an option for me. I do want more mojo in the morning though. I like to feel strong when I run not tired. Should I take days off? Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks guys! :D

If you can stomach caffeine before a run, that might help. A little coffee with heavy cream for me does the trick.

Otherwise, an egg or something light with a little fat and protein in it should be good. If you haven't been on Atkins style dieting for very long, you probably just need more time for your body to utilize the fat better. Generally though, upping the fat/protein just a bit at a time will probably bring up your energy levels.

I was going to suggest coffee with cream or coconut milk. Alot depends on what you're stomach can handle. I used to eat Fage yogurt before a run - alot of people could not handle that kind of dairy right before a run.

If you've been on atkins that long, then you should be fat adapted by now, so a small fat source would be the better choice. otherwise, try a little caffiene and see if that will do it. good luck!
