Shocked to discover why I've been sick for so long..

I've been 'not well' pretty much my entire life. I was a horribly sickly child since birth and got a little better as I got into my teenage years. I have better days, and really bad days, but it has become my own normal. After being on strict Atkins for over 3 weeks, and only losing 5 lbs, (which I gained back 3 with no cheating) and feeling so incredibly weak I went to the doctor a few days ago.
This morning my doctor gave me the results of my tests and informed me that I have candida. She said it could been seen in my blood?! Anyway.. I never knew that candida caused more than just thrush in the mouth and female yeast infections - which I've never been prone to getting. She also informed me that with my history, it's very possible that I have had this issue my entire life!

So, new diet. I'm on Atkins, and pretty much dairy free since I cut out dairy last week after bloating up massively. I'm going to make the adjustments I need to make, take my meds, probiotics, and begin the lovely die off effects which she told me might be quite miserable at first.

Any tips on how to make this more bearable? Any advice?

Have you found any tips for managing this? How are you doing?

Did your doctor tell you about oregano oil?

Thanks for the responses.

I am hanging in there. Noticing some of the die-off effects daily. Headaches, brain fog, borderline diarrhea, but the worst for me is the joint pain. It's absolutely horrible and feels very similar to when I was having back labor with my son. Thank goodness it comes and goes, and I do get a little bit of a break at times.

I am on a regimen of proper diet, grapefruit seed extract, oil of oregano and pau d'arco. I'm also taking a boatload of vitamin supplements including D3 and several others. My treatment will change every two weeks I'm told, to make sure the candida does not become resistant and we are able to get rid of it all.

Right now I'm taking very hot baths in epsom salts to soothe myself and it does help a bit.

I take all of the oregano oil and pau d'arco and grade seed extract before going to bed, this way I sleep through most of the die off symptoms.

Good idea!!
I'm on a twice daily treatment, or I'd do that. When it changes up, I'll definitely try that if I'm on once a day dosing.

Oh, that pain sounds horrible. I had back labor, too. *shudders* hope you feel better soon.

Take it very slow on probiotics, they cause massive gas and bloating. I take 1/2 or 1/3 doses 2 x daily. But also grapefruit seed extract for candida as well.

This is a two year old thread, when using the search function on this website checks the dates, there isn't a way to date restrict.
But since the thread is here, Zoe Harcombe addresses Candida often in her writings. Her book on the three reasons, Why you Overeat, one is candida. In that book, she summarizes the three major "diets" to control it, much advice how to reduce, deal with die-off, etc.
