Meter Control Solution

I just received my Nova glucose/ketone testing meter. It came with a small vial of glucose/ketone testing solution, which I am assuming is to test the calibration of both the meter and the testing strips.

My question is: Should this solution give the same reading across the board of meters? I have 3 currently. Don't want to waste strips...

Jenny Ruhl has written in her book and a few articles... not to waste strips on the meter solution. And because I'm lazy, just accepted her advice and have never bothered with it.
