Can you get Spaghetti Squash in NZ??

Hi everyone, I'm a newbie.

I have just started the South Beach Diet which calls for Spaghetti Squash. I cant find it anywhere.

:help: Are there any kiwis out there who can tell me where to buy it.

Thanks

Willo

Hi Willo,

I think it's pretty seasonal for a start, and as such would be (I think?) more likely to be available in winter.

Having said that, I haven't seen it here for a long time. I suspect that were I to go to a specialty greengrocer, I moght find it, but I am just not that enthused. ;)

I think it will be easiest if you just substitute other allowed vegies.

Of course, if an Enzeder comes along to tell you where to find it, ignore what I just said. :D

If you are prepared to grow it you can have some! Kings seeds (mail order and online) sell them. I haven't tried them yet, but intend to plant them next spring. I have never seen them sold at market or in the shops.

grow them!

Spaghetti squash is fun to grow! Easy, too. They like lots of sunshine and plenty of room to run. If kept in a cool dry place with skins intact, they keep nicely for several months--if you don't eat them all up!

I love growing it and eating it! I need to start some seedlings now. In the market yesterday, they were $1.29/lb and that is quite high since they are hefty weight-wise.

Thanks for that. I will start planting and enjoy !!
