Aw....Nuts!

I don't know if anyone has seen these studies, but it's highly disturbing, and more than a little confusing; as one study concludes, given that so many people concerned with their general dietary intake, rely on the accuracy of labelling for a variety of reasons, the anomalies discovered are highly unsettling, to say the least....

Walnuts

Almonds

Pistachios

It can only be assumed that such calorific calculations for other nuts must also be wide of the mark.

Peanuts, of course, are not strictly speaking, nuts....

I'm not very sciency, so may need some help understanding these reports. Do the nuts have fewer calories than was previously thought? That may be a good thing. Now if they could find out if they also have fewer carbs, that would be excellent! :)

Yes, the nuts have fewer calories than was previously estimated by Atwater factors. This means that nut consumption by quantity of the three mentioned in the studies referenced do not have as much of a potential for weight gain, and can in fact be a healthy addition to a diet promoting weight loss. I pay no attention to calories in general, and with nuts, I want to know total carb and fat content. To me, this is good news, as I eat nuts and never intended to stop. Just remember for those following Atkins Induction, nuts are not on the list.
