Atkins Bars and Flatulence

Anyone out there eat these bars notice any increase in body music?

I notice a couple hours after eating a bar or two i become rather resonant. Almost embarassingly so. Not your normal little squeekers mind you, but really airated ones.

I am not sure if it is just my mind or not, but while on Induction I had relatively no gas, so I may not just be used to farting a few times in succession. Who knows.

I love the Atkins bars so much, sometimes I'll have two of them for a meal. That is when I noticed the aformentioned effects an hour or so later.

I've been off induction for two weeks now, so it may just be the carbs increase.

yup'

It is the bars. They give me terrible belly aches.
I am afraid of them now.
If you want to lose the gas you've got to lose the bars. :(

I generally don't have any problems with the bars giving me these types of problems. But then again, I've never eaten two at one time, so that could be the reason. I've read it all over this forum that products with Maltitol cause gas, but it really depends on your consumption. Try limiting yourself to one bar every few days - that might help :)

From my experiences w/the bars, I've noticed that even if I eat just one, my *ahem* bootie trumpet tunes up.

I also get it from certain LC candies. Basically, I think that it's just a reaction to the consumption of sugar alcohols. IMHO, you may want to experiment w/how many bars and/or how often you eat them to see if they affect you differently.

Good luck!

Beano

I know this feeling, believe me. Try taking one Beano tab before eating the bars, or some Gas-X before or after-and Good Luck to us all!

I haven't noticed it with the Atkins bars, but definitely this new sugar-free (maltitol, sorbitol) ice cream I found. I was just glad hubby was at work. I'm sure he would have kicked me out of bed! :o :o WWWIINNNDDDYY city (Chicago :D ). It was so ridiculous. I've had it one time since then, about half the amount I'd had the first time and I was fine.

A Mighty Wind

Yep, it's the malitol. Tastes so good, feels so bad. You come up with the funniest threads. Love it!

On the Beano suggestion - on other boards I've read that if the sugar alcohols don't give you gas, then you are metabolizing them as sugar. Dana Carpender says in her recipe book that if the Beano works, then you are metabolizing the sugar alcohols. Therefore you would have to count all the carbs in them. Does that make sense?

Ok, so what you are saying then is that farting is good?
Hah!

How to convince those around me?

When they waft the air and say "Wooo!", I'll just reply back that is me metabolizing fat and losing weight. Besides, it is just carb farts. They shouldn't be too stinky....

Oh Jesus; had the throw the box out

OK; yes I did eat 4 bars; then I had the worst most filthy case of farts in my life. Threw out the box; this is not food; its chemical garbage. FU Atkins Corp for making me sick. Jeeezus that kind of farting is NOT health :help:

For 14 years we were trying to suppress this thread but it came "bubbling" back up so to speak, like so much wind passing from behind. Thanks for the heads up on those bars. I tried a Quest bar the other day for the first time. Don't bother brother!

I tried Epic bars a couple of years ago and wasn't very impressed but this newest one is something to really think about.....
