Anyone found pork rinds?

I ordered some online and hated them, but now I am thinking I should try them in recipes and with cream cheese etc... trouble is, I can't find them anywhere!! And it is so expensive to get them sent from the UK...
Thanks, Doods.

Hiya

I am still a bit bemused by what they hell they are!

I had them explained to me and they sounded really vile. I keep thinking of those bacon fries you get in the pub. But no doubt those bacon fries are chocabloc with carbs and other processed rubbish.

Sorry I am no help!!!!

Are you looking for snack ideas?

Clo

Pork Rinds

In the UK pork rinds are called Pork Scratchings and are usually in the crisps and snack section at the supermarket, they are very cheap here though, about 35-55p a bag. It is possible to make your own though!!, you need pork skin from the butcher, dehaired in poss, get him to take as much fat as possible off the back and cut into thin strips. All you need to do then is salt linberally and put in a very hot oven until raosted and crisp. You may want to pour off any fat as it roasts so that it gets so crisp that all the fat has been drained off. Drain on kitchen paper and use as per recipe. Good luck!!

OK, I was going to get some, actually looked at them today in Wal-mart. Now that you have said what they are I think I'll think again before I get them!! You can get them flavored here in the U.S. If anyone hears of any other carb free snack please share!!

I would recommend a different snack

than pork rinds. If they sick you out they really aren't worth the crunch!
Anyways, When I was living in Dublin they sure weren't there!

What do you like in your snacks? Maybe we can help you find something better than those icky rinds!

Pork rinds

Hi Doodle,

Couldn't help but notice your thread on pork rinds. I live in North Carolina and they are easy to find. One suggestion though, don't use them in recipes, cream cheese are any thing else. They are best eaten with beer, or low carb beer. That's about the only thing they go with. Actually it helps if you've had a few pints before you start eating them and then they are very good.

Where were the pork rinds made that you ordered? If they were made outside of the southern U.S., they may not have the right taste. Pork rinds are deep fat fried. The ones I like are not salted.

All joking aside, pork rinds are an aquired taste. Not all southerners I know like them.

I did enjoy reading all of your comments about pork rinds. They are something I have eaten since I was a child. Hope you all, or as we say, y'all don't mind my response.

Hi Doodle,

After reading this thread on pork rinds I had a craving for some. Big mistake. I'll leave pork rinds for non low carbers.

Best of luck to you all in Ireland.
