Does Medicare pay for...

For the U.S. seniors in the crowd ... does Medicare pay for the coronary calcium scan or any of the advanced lipid tests (NMR, VAP, ...)?

Thanks.

CAC: Not for me, but we got it for $99 during Heart Month, February.
What I understand from the WidowMaker film, the State of Texas mandates insurance and does cover the test. Unsure about other states.

If your doctor orders the NMR test (deems it necessary) then they should be covered. Issue is finding a doctor who orders it. Dr. Westman did for me and it was covered by my insurance, subject to co-pays etc. That can still be expensive depending on your plan, Medicare supplement, etc.

Some labs seem to be switching to CardioIQ. (e.g. SaveOnLabs, $191.50)

I am convinved looking at the actual artery rather than reading the tea leaves from blood tests makes more sense. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...26&page=1&pp=15
