Carbohydrate amount question - new to tsp

I have tried to follow lc diets for years but have come to the conclusion that they do not feel good to me. I have trouble eating balanced meals and tend to snack all day and usually end up binging on carbs at some point. I never grew up eating regular balanced meals either and usually ate whatever I felt like whenever I felt (cupcake for dinner anyone?). Anyway TSP seems to be a good plan to teach someone like me how to eat normal healthy balanced meals and not just rely on extreme diets to lose weight only to revert to bad eating and gain it all back.

My question is how to determine the carbs per meal thing. One place in the Program book says 125 carbs per day divided into 5 meals with 25 carbs each. I have also seen in other places 75 carbs per day 15 at each meal and 7.5 at each snack. Also, are you supposed to count the carbs in the non-starchy veggies or just in the carby carbs? I am guessing that I need a bit of time on the healing part of the diet but it is a little confusing to me what exactly I should be doing. I'm also a little scared of the part where it says you may gain weight :help: I don't want to  :tears:

Any words of wisdom from TSP masters?

Welcome AimeeJoi. I have metabolic syndrome and PCOS, so I follow the 20 carb at 3 larger meals and up to 10 at the two snacks. Though, sometimes my snacks can be close to the size of a meal, since my meals aren't really large. This works well for me. Also, I'm currently doing a mix of the healing program and maintenence, in that I don't count berries as carbs anymore. Otherwise, I do try to keep to the carb count for the healing program.
Start out with the lower carb count first and see if that works for you. If not, go to the larger count and see how that goes. I think that is what she suggests in the book if you aren't sure what level you are at.

Thanks! I was starting to think this forum was a ghost town. I have only been doing it for 2 days so far so I can't say for sure how it's going for me. I gained a pound after my first day but I'm not gonna get that upset about that just yet.

It seems like I am eating constantly though and I am never hungry. Is that what you are supposed to feel like. I have never been able to lose weight without feeling hunger at least once throughout the day so it's hard for me to believe this is going to work. I have been eating 20-25 carbs for meals and 15-20 carbs for snacks. I am also counting non-starchy carbs in my carb count.

This is definitely and easy diet to follow so I am really hoping that it works because I could see this as something I could do for life.

One more question, I know you aren't supposed to use caffeine but what about decaf coffee? I don't have any real need for the caffeine I just love the taste and would hate to have to give that up.

Hope to hear more about people's experiences!
