What is your Non-Scale goal?!
 
Mine is to sit on an airplane comfortably and be able to buckle the seatbelt! :lol:

I have a few. Some pure vanity, some deeper than that.

- Fit back into an outfit from college when I was 155 lbs. Yeah, I'm realistic. I know it may not happen, but I'd love it if it did!

- Fly comfortably.
I can fit into the seats, and I can buckle the seatbelt without an extender...but only just barely! What's really uncomfortable for me is that, to avoid being that person who everyone complains about (even my own aunt!), who is "The fatty who is spilling over into the seat I paid for!" I basically spend the entire flight hugging my own torso as tightly as possible. If my arms even touch the arm rests I get paranoid that I'm taking up more than my fair share of room. After a few hours it leads to some wicked arm and back cramps, and sleeping that way is impossible. I'd like to be able to actually relax on a flight!

- Feel comfortable with my own body. This was an issue for me even when I was smaller, so it's mostly a mental thing. It's a big part of why I gained so much weight, though, so I know it'll be important for future success!

To fit into the size 14 clothes I wore before kids. They're the smallest clothes in my closet and I especially want to be able to wear the ones with the price tags still attached. I want to either wear them out and move down to the next size...which will mean a whole new wardrobe because I don't own any 12's.😁👍

Also, fly and travel more comfortably.

1) to not have to worry about 'seat size' when attending a movie, concert or other event.
2) to not audibly wheeze when walking with others, or climbing stairs.
3) to shop in the regular sizes, not plus sizes.
4) to like how I look and the shape I am in.

My aunt could do this with ease even well into her late 80's. It was so easy for her she didn't even think about it, but would just pop up from the floor this way after playing with her great-grandchildren. And me with my bad knee? Probably never.

Though of course my aunt (my mom's big sister) never really had a weight issue either. Though I do recall that in her early 70's, on her 50th wedding anniversary, about all the weight she had put on over the years. She was 5'4", and as she said sadly about it "on my wedding day I weighed 99 pounds, and today I weigh 124. In 50 years I have put on *25 pounds*!"

My major NSV would be able to wear "regular" clothes and not "plus". Most of my shirts are men's shirts though as I tend to hate all shirts on offer in the plus-sized department. Quite apart from the smaller size I would love to have more options if clothes shopping.

Even at normal weight for my height when I was in high school, I still wore plus sizes and had to shop at special stores. I'm just not built the right way. My mom weighs 150 at 5'2" and wears plus sizes right now. It's all genetic. It does make it hard to motivate to lose a lot more weight, for sure. I would love to shop in normal stores but it's never going to happen. When I was 180 I was miles away from clothes that didn't contain a "w".

  • Be that 50+ year old dude who can do a chin-up
  • Dust off the old windsurfer and catch a breeze on the Patomic
  • Meet my great grandchildren
  • I'm already off all meds and I want to stay pharmaceutical free (if at all possible)
  • Fix up my neglected house -- needs some siding, windows fixed, and some new paint
  • See Europe again.
  • Live to see the day when worldwide diabetes and obesity rates are on the decline.

I'll be repetitive here, but it's cathartic to write them down.

1. Buy clothes in the "regular" store or "regular" department and not the Big and Tall.
2. Like s-piper, comfortable in an airline seat. That's exactly what I do!
3. Related to #2, I'd like to feel comfortable flying in the commuter jets. I fly Southwest all of the time now, because they are all 737s. It would be cheaper and more convenient at times to jump on a Delta, or American flight, and most of them that fly from both Lincoln and Omaha are the commuter jets.
4. Run an entire 5k without stopping to walk.
5. Get off my BP meds.
6. Get off my CPAP!

My goals right now are:

Be able to swim freestyle a mile straight. I'm on the 2nd week of the Zero to One Mile program. Week 2 is 900 yards and I am blown away that I can do it easily.

Train for an August sprint triathlon down the shore. I am good now on the running and the swimming but biking intimidates me, so I have to get on that...

Do you really worry about that?

The only things I worry about fitting into are airplane seats and rollercoasters. It never occurred to me to worry about concerts and particularly not movie theaters. In my experience the seats in movie theaters are huge, and the arms can be put up. I do always sit on the end of an aisle, though. Partially my anxiety issues, I feel better if I can make a quick "get away" if I should have an anxiety attack, and partially because I feel self-conscious squeezing by people at my size.

Yeah. It particularly chafes when the person in the seat next to me, regardless of size, doesn't have any problem with elbowing me in the ribs or manspreading into my leg room. Hey, I'm tall for a woman, I get that it's tough flying with long legs, but don't glare at me because your knee touched mine when I've already voluntarily crammed myself into an imaginary tiny space to avoid taking up more than my fair share!

Yes S-Piper. I really do have to worry about that. I haven't even tried to fit into a roller coaster seat in years. And school auditoriums are not huge, and at least our movie theater does not have arms that can be put up, and some of them are not comfortable. A SIGNIFICANT portion of my extra weight is all in my butt and upper thighs, which makes seating very uncomfortable. So yep, definitely one of my non-scale goals - to be like most other people and not have to worry about the seat sizes anywhere.

Ah yes, school auditoriums. I haven't been in one of those in a while, but I can relate when it comes to university class rooms with the desk/chair combinations. I hate how they squash my stomach. Same with airplane seats. The seat I can fit into, but when I put the tray table down it doesn't go all the way because my stomach is in the way and it makes me feel really self-conscious. And, yeah, the movie theater thing...to be fair, I am used to living in big cities, so most of the movie theaters I frequent are big multiplexes. I have noticed at some of the arts theaters, though, that the seats are smaller.

I'm sorry you have to go through that. :(

I can relate to the amusement park thing. I haven't been brave enough to even attempt to get onto a rollercoaster in years either.

Man, do i hate those desk/chair combos. But I was taking classes while I was pregnant, and was sitting in one of those the night before I went into labor. But that was awful. I haven't been on an airplane since 1994 and I think seats have gotten smaller since then, but as a rule I don't have an issue with seats for anything.

I've even gone on roller coasters with my grandson and had no problems fitting, but found I no longer really enjoy roller coasters. :D

I have this tentative plan to enter my forties thin, fit and finally a nurse (I'm in college now).

Those are also great ones, and I agree! I would like to live as naturally as I possibly can. For one thing, I've got a nice kitchen garden every summer (Norway unfortunately doesn't lend itself to all-year outdoor gardens...)!

Long-term I would like the same as I want for my patients (on surgical rotation atm), meaning optimal health. It isn't always amazing health, because many of them have long-term health problems, but, OPTIMAL. As in, the best health achieveable.

To be able to buy a hanging tree stand with a max weight of 300 and just use it instead of buying the fat boy "2 man stand" with a max weight of 500. I also want to be able to fit into a safety harness while on that tree stand, instead of having to rig up a special one with a rope.
