Metabolic Therapeutics Conference talks/Epigenix Foundation

Dr Eric Westman spoke at a conference end of January in Tampa, 2016 Metabolic Therapeutics, along with many leaders in Ketogenic diets, the metabolic theory of cancer etc.

The sponsor, Epigenix Foundation, has recently posted ALL of the talks on YouTube. For the Ketogenic geeks here, this is treasure trove.

Just watched the Westman and Volek presentations. Very good current information. Nothing terribly new for those who have been paying attention to low carb/ keto information over the past few years. I heard Dr. Hallberg ask a question in Volek's presentation, so the conference was attended by knowledgeable people in the field, obviously. I'll view the other presentations over the next couple days.

I also watched the Westman and Volek talks; I was impressed with how far we've come, especially with some new stuffs. Volek's response to the question on meal timing, which I took to be a question related to intermittent fasting (IF), was amazingly simple, but perfect.

I haven't seen a Mary Newport talk in 5 years or so, and almost quit listening after the first 10 minutes. Don't miss it. Keep with it till the final question.

Thanks Jey.

Wow, there are hours of videos there -- I see I've got stuff to watch for the rest of the year!

Thanks for the links, I think? ;)

Just watched Eric Westman at 2016 conference, really good, love him. He refuted the beans and rice question really well.
Great explanations of low carb and reducing/preventing diabetes with WOE.

Now on to the rest of the videos!

Not only are there a lot of them, I've been waiting for the cancer talks to be posted. No matter how often I hear Dr. Seyfried and group, they lose me and rewind/repeat is hit often. ;)

Westman's graphs came down too fast. As soon as I could focus and figure out how it was set up then just as I was reading the numbers... he clicked and poof, it was gone. Yes, I had to do a replay several times also.
But great info and well worth watching!! :agree:

Some of Dr Westman's slides were used for a similar talk in Capetown and Vail. http://www.dietdoctor.com/member/pr...ns/westman-vail DietDoctor edits in the slides in well, leaving them up enough time, so I watch on an iPad, pause and screen shot if needed. DietDoctor's professional video team is good... maybe should suggest he works at Tampa next year...and bring more lights! :)

It wasn't their fault. The way someone set up the screen, it was basically next to them so that they couldn't see what was being shown without leaning out and looking back.

Gearing up for the 2017 conference next weekend, the Epigenix Foundation posted a new video of a brain cancer survivor using their Keto diet. It appears they (i.e. Quest) developed foods for this trial. http://www.questketo.com/meals-1102/

The foundation board and significant funding involve executives from Quest Nutrition. Foundation Board Chair is Ron Penna, Founder and CEO of Quest.

This past year, in conjunction with Cedars-Sinai Hospital, they have been conducting a Pilot Study with 50 human patients using a Keto diet in conjunction with conventional treatment. This is a 3 minute video about a pro-surfer with brain cancer.

“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change.” - Wayne Dyer

Even in the face of a life-threatening disease like cancer, perspective can change everything.
I am in control...
I feel empowered…
I WILL overcome this…
These are powerful words of perception from our patients at Epigenix Foundation.

Over the last year, we've had the privilege to guide and learn from the nearly 50 people who have participated in our pilot studies. Many of them face a reality where life is not guaranteed. Yet despite any diagnosis or prognosis, they do not allow their disease to define them. They have shown me the truth behind the saying, “Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.”
Our patients decide to THRIVE.

Tim Reda is a beautiful example of this. Last year, Tim was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the height of his professional surfing career. Unfortunately, for several months Tim lost his ability to surf when he began chemo and radiation treatments. Through the support of his physician at Cedars Sinai and alongside standard of care, Tim decided to participate in our ketogenic diet pilot study. The progress he’s made since his diagnosis is nothing short of extraordinary.
We are proud to share with you the inspiring story of how Tim Reda made it back into the blue.

Special thanks to Amy & Tim Reda for bravely sharing their journey, the Epigenix Foundation team, Tim's incredible support system at Cedars-Sinai including Dr. Hu, LJ Fitzpatrick, and our talented media crew Ben Spink, Niles Hogue, Prosper Kitilya and Erick Solis for capturing Tim's story and helping us share it with the world!
