Pickled beetroot

Hello, was in tesco today and intended on buying a jar of beetroot but every jar i picked up was pickled with sugar as well as the vinegar. They seemed to range from 3-6 carbs a serving. Is that negligible enough for phase 2 or should i just steer clear? I do miss having it with cheese and roast chicken, yum!

Well, once you get to OWL rung/level 8 and are testing the starchy vegetables like beetroot you might have found a brand with only beetroot and vinegar.

Or buy the packs of cooked beetroot (usually vacuum-packed in most supermarkets) if you dont want the bother of cooking from fresh to pickle your own.

BTW fitday has one ounce of raw beetrot as having 2 net carbs, so an OWL 5 net carb portion is going to be fairly small anyway :(

Actually I prefer cooked beetroot un-pickled as a hot vegetable or cold with a sald as the vinegary taste is unpleasant to my tastebuds.

thanks for the response! ;)

ack, i didnt realize pickled beetroot would be in the starchy category, i figured it was in the more veggies list. As far as rungs, i've already skipped to berries though the berry of choice for me was strawberries which i think might have been a mistake.

but, i've ordered the new book so i plan on getting back on track properly. Thanks for the advice on the beetroot though, it looks like i'll have to steer clear of it completely for a while...what a shame, i love that vinegary taste!
