Bacon Ideas- 101 ways

This is long overdue and a mainstay in my WOE so give us your ideas about how to cook with and eat bacon.

Chop and cook several pieces of bacon then add the Cabbage sautéed with the bacon. Add a little butter at the end for flavor.

Meme, the extra butter in the cabbage sounds good. Were you the one who said you grew up with your mom frying cabbage in butter on the stovetop? That's when I started doing it that way. Never thought of it before.

........................................................................ .............

Baked Cabbage and Bacon got this one from C. Syfert

1 large head of cabbage
1 lb. of bacon, not thick-sliced
pepper
Optional: salt, and a drizzle of olive oil

Cut the cabbage heads into 8ths. Pepper the chunks of cabbage, adding salt and olive oil if desired. Tightly wrap each piece with 1.5-2 pieces of bacon. Wrap each individually in foil, tight. Bake them for about 2 hrs on 425.... OMG! like candy for me, the bacon browns really good, the cabbage takes on the bacon flavor... YUM!

(Seems like too hot, for too long...but it's not!)

So. Darn. Delicious.

........................................................................ .............

I read in PilotGals journal about sautéing brussels sprouts (never thought of that before either) with bacon. Here's how I do it:

Fried Bacon and Brussels Sprouts

Cut brussels sprouts in half lengthwise, then again, cross-wise, in strips. Set aside.
Cut bacon into squares and fry until crispy. Remove bacon from pan, and put the brussels sprouts in the remaining grease. As you drop them in, crunch them in your hands to break the strips up.
Add a little water, and cover the pan for the first 5 minutes to help the brussels sprouts soften.
Remove the lid, turn up the heat and stir until the brussels sprouts start turning brown. Put the bacon back in, stir together and CHOW DOWN!

Double delicious!

brilliant thread idea! we LOVE bacon:

1. bacon wrapped chicken breasts- can be served on top of salad or on own- sometimes in lettuce wrap wth melted swiss and sf BBQ sauce

2. bacon wrapped scallops

3. this sounds weird, but trust me- bacon wrapped strawberries. i did them for valentine's one year, and then realized what a fun salad garnish over lettuce with goat cheese!

4. chocolate covered bacon- i used lindt 85%- melt it- have baked bacon (the baking makes it crunchy so it holds up well), dip in melted chocolate and refrigerate on wax paper until chocolate hardens.

5. on grilled chicken with melted provolone and avocado, all wrapped in lettuce bun for a great club sandwich- sometimes also add mayo, sprouts and tomato

6. google "bacon roses"- i did this for Valentine's one year, and my boyfriend went nuts. hahaha!

Bacon weave wrapped turkey.

That is all.

I saw this on TV....bacon wrapped meatloaf. Use uncooked bacon done in a lattice fashion...place over prepared meatloaf, tuck in edges and bake as normal. We ALL loved it!

Bacon-wrapped chicken thighs are good. I call them "bacon garters".

This reminds me of an appetizer I had at a winery. It was a cube of chicken, a thick slice of sugared jalapeño, wrapped in probably a half-slice of bacon and baked. TDF. Of course, we would be using NON-sugared jalapeños!

Any more bacon ideas out there?

PG has a good one with the Jalapeno, cream cheese and bacon wrap. My oldest daughter made this once and I think she had a shrimp in there somewhere too.

Bacon weave grilled cheese is a good one.

Meme#1 Thu, May-07-15 14:36

That sounds interesting..
How do you make it?
