Is this the beginning of the end of meat?

the Impossible Burger: a patty composed largely of wheat and potato proteins that -- thanks to a iron-containing molecule called heme -- looks, handles and (reportedly!) tastes quite a lot like ground beef.

What could possibly go wrong?

I guess if people are already eating fake plant meat, they might as well enjoy it. As a vegan, I'd be a bit conflicted about only finding plant protein yummy once a component of blood is added to it.

I have a pretty good trick for cashew milk--just add equal parts heavy cream. Makes the stuff delicious. Doesn't do much for the cream, but really improves the cashew milk.

I don't really understand fake meat. Outside of soy, which I doubt heme would help the flavour of (it totally ruins real beef burgers for me, tastes like plastic), every vegetable protein source I can think of tastes much better in its original form.

This at least seems more plausible than growing beef in a vat.

The carb count is probably impossibly high for diabetics like me. But I wouldn't be surprised if it tastes good. Years ago I used to get veggie burgers at Dairy Queen - loved 'em. I also had a favorite lentil sandwich filling that I still miss.

I can handle a black bean burger in an emergency, tastewise; but I just don't get much out of vegetable proteins. They are never satisfying, and rarely taste even "good."

Cynical me thinks the giant food processors are thrilled with the vegan wave, and would be very happy to make all of our food processed.

There's this embedded "fear of meat" in people now; carefully propagandized and nurtured. Even as a picky child, I far preferred meat to vegetables; still do. I would not have fared well in modern times, when the only time a kid gets meat is when it is wrapped in a bread coating to hide its true nature.

Bring it on - more meat for me!

Legume proteins cause me immune reactions like joint pain & wheezing and I certainly don't need them or any other non-infectious, chronic inflammatory diseases like Type-2 diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, obesity, stroke, heart disease, and cancer.

Made me want to go out and get a nice thick juicy steak.
