Coconut oil & ALA?
Protein Power says to avoid ALA/arachnoid acid. I have been unable to find out for certain, but it looks as if coconut oil has a lot of ALA?
|
The quick answer is, NO, it does not have a lot.
It has a small percentage (0.8) of Linoleic Acid, according to a coconut oil flyer I have. Most of the oils are saturated not polyunsaturated like ALA. |
Thanks! I didn't want to screw myself up any more than I already am..

ALA is an omega 3 found primarily in flax seed oil.
I never did understand the fear of AA.. |

Well, it's in Protein Power (the whys, hows). I'm kinda experimenting. My mother has bursitis and my grandmother has asthma. So, I'm curious as to whether I am "sensitive" to AA. Because even when I adhere very closely to my diet, I lose excruciatingly slow. I know, we all feel that way. :help:  And I'm taking fish oil to encourage the "good" guys!!

This is true only if you are allergic to it. Also they show ways to eat some foods, such as steak, that are high in arichodonic acid without the affects. |

I looked up arachidonic acid and I found that it is primarily found in animal protein but it can also be found in plant foods that contain linoleic acid which is in coconut oil.
|
That's what I had found too. But, PP doesn't list coconut oil on their oil list. I guess I can post the question on PP. So, I'm currently not taking it. :)

You know what? Why not email the Eades directly. I will return with an email address.

Thanks, but that site said they couldn't answer food questions.

I went to PP and got an answer and an informational part of a web site I obviously haven't explored sufficiently.. :o http://www.nutritiondata.com/topics/fatty-acids No, it doesn't have any! :yum: |
Well, if you go the blog they will answer questions. I go there nearly every day.

I may try that. I can make the No Bake Killer Cheesecake! I actually had a bit more fat today. I found this diet V8 Splash. 10 cal in 8 oz. It's kinda orange flavored, so you add whipping cream and a splenda and you have an creamsicle. (without the Amaretto)
It made a nice smoothie for lunch (a scoop of protein powder) and I had some walnuts. I usually do eat a bit more at lunch, but was busy today. I'll have to make sure I'm entering to keep track of total calories/protein/enough fat! I do write it down in a journal as it's sometimes hard to get on the computer. Since nothing really happened with my weight, I'll presume I'm not particularly sensitive to AA. Thank you! |
