Experience with Guggul?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for anyone's experience, anecdotes, expertise, or comments, as thyroid and adrenals are the two subjects I have not fully tackled yet, research wise or anything-wise.

I have not had labs done, but intend to. That will come in the future, so in the meantime, I have done nothing for years, except I guess just fly blind and hope for the best by the seat of my pants. (thumbswaydown to that!)

Copying from what I just posted in my own journal:

Quote:
My morning temperature when I opened my eyes today was 96.2 degrees. And then at noon it was 95.6 degrees!!

I am not thrilled about that at all, but will continue to document and see what comes up over a period of several days. This is with a digital thermometer, and I heard they're fairly useless for reliability of temp monitoring to gauge anything re adrenals or thyroid anyway, so I think this might be kind of a wasted exercise.

But until I'm able to get some labs done eventually and in the future, and in light of the fact that I am doing low carb as well as low calorie, I am going to order some guggul right now. I've never used it before, but have high hopes that it should help a bit.

So I guess my question are:

1. Has anyone taken guggul before?

2. Has anyone self medicated with non-prescription natural thyroid, WITHOUT knowing what their actual labs are first?

3. If so, what were your results, and how long did it take to see any?

4. Obviously, being on this forum/site, I am also most interested to hear of course what differences anyone saw with their weight loss. Either rate of, speed of, difference in, or anything else at all that you've noticed, or would like to share.

Thank you so much in advance!!!

So sorry for bumping my own thread, but anyone at all?

I would really, really be so grateful for any input whatsoever. Thank you again so much in advance!

I've never heard of guggul, sorry.
I do take armour and a thyroid supplement along with adrenal supplements, both twice a day.
Since taking both supplements for a few months, I have noticed good changes. Not always so cold and the ridges on my thumb nails are disappearing. That's a miracle to me.

I'll get you links to the supplements later.

Hi Judy,

I just bought some adrenal supplements also. Are you self medicating with the armour, btw?

No, not self medicating, with an Rx.
Here is a list of the things that I'm taking:
Daytime:
Relora Plus by Thorne- 1 cap first thing in the am with my armour.
Adrenasense- 1 cap at noon
Thyroid Support by 1 body- 1 cap at noon
Nightime before sleep:
Adrenasense- 1 cap
Thyroid Support- 1 cap

I take these with all my other supplements, religiously. I think that it is actually helping.

I've taken guggul along with ashwagandha. I believe it was Maria Emmerich who said to take the two together. I don't remember noticing anything different.

How long did you take them for?
In my experience, it can take months of consistently taking them to see anything at all.

Yes, I've taken guggul. I didn't notice any dramatic effects but may not have taken it long enough; and I certainly felt fine when I was taking it. I've used Himalayan Herbal Health brand for that and some other remedies, it seems to be of very good quality and there's a lot of info about the remedies on their site.

I have read that guggul is sometimes best taken in combination with other herbs to increase its effect.

I haven't had the tests you refer to but my mother has had a long-standing thyroid deficiency so I've wondered if mine might be affected too. I especially noticed problems in November/December when the cold and darkness set in. At that point I bought some kelp (the pieces, not flakes) and toasted them, I felt so much better. High in iodine and other minerals. (I've never felt great using the seaweed flakes or powders but some people are OK with them.)

There's a good article on the thyroid imbalance and alternative remedies by Susun Weed that you may be able to find online, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Added: can't 'find that article online anymore but there's a good chapter on thyroid health in her Menopause book. I did locate an article on seaweeds: http://www.susunweed.com/Article_Seaweed.htm

I've read that iodine supplementation is very important! Thanks for mentioning it, pazia!

Thanks for your responses, ladies.

Just as an aside - Himalayan Herbal Health Guggul is only 7.5mg per TWO tablets or just 3.75mg per one: but the dosage to support thyroid is 100mg - 200mg per day.

honeypie Fri, Feb-27-15 16:52

Sorry, just to clarify: that is to say, for thyroid support the dosage is 100mg - 200mg of active guggelsterones per day.

That yield normally comes from tablets that should then be 1000mg - 2000mg of guggul extract, as they are normally standardized only to inbetween 2% - 10%.
