Carbs in UK beers - the truth

I have emailed the brewers of the beers below to get the exact number of carbs for their beers. These are the values they sent back. I've converted them so that they are all for a UK pint.

Bindings Diat Pils 3.98

Miller Lite 4.26

Michelob Ultra 4.43

Coors Light 7.55

Thanks for the research. Now I know the less carby ones for times when I must have a beer but no real low carb one is available.

Tesco's Value Lager is 5.1g carb for a 440 ml can. Admittedly not the greatest flavour available (!) but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than the brand name "low carb" beers ;)

Didn't I read somewhere on this forum that Michelob Ultra was only 2.5g?

sati Mon, Jan-26-04 09:52

It's 2.57g for a 330ml bottle. I've rounded the figures up to a pint so that people can see like for like.

Thanks for your hard work, I think!
I have been counting Stella as 10g and now I find out its nearer to 20.
When i go out I always treat myself to 1 pint and then change to red wine, however it is lager I really miss on this diet, theres nothing better than sitting in the sun in a beer garden with a cold pint of Stella, red wine just isn't the same!!!

Hay cjbrooks. As stated above 'Tesco's Value Lager is 5.1g carb for a 440 ml can.' This might be possible?

Thanks re the Tesco beer, but I am trying not to drink at home its too easy to get carried away. You have to buy a pack of 4 for a start so with my poor willpower no doubt they'd soon be all gone.
Might be an idea for barbies in the summer tho!

a cold michelob ultra does hit the spot mind. And its getting much easier to find in the toon

Further info

Part of the reason Michelob Ultra's carb count is so low is that the bottles aren't quite 330ml - more like 300mls. I reckon the best value/tasting low-carb beer is Spar's own brand Premium lager. Something like 4.5g per can.

Marston's 'Low-carb' beer update

I realise that this conversation started 12 years ago! In case anyone is still alive & interested, I had an email from Marston's suggesting that their low-carb 'Resolution' beer is 1.26g/100g - ie 3.5g per bottle or 7g per pint. This is double the figure given in Sati's chart, but it may be that the recipe has changed. Still low compared with most others though. However, I say 'suggesting' because Marston's were keen to say that this was a 'calculated' figure rather than one derived from independent analysis. This makes me a little suspicious - especially given the fact that though a pleasant flavour, for my taste buds the beer is quite sweet! Does anyone have any other evidence about this or other beers? Martin

   a true case of that was then ... this is now.
Michelob Utra is 2.5 carbs but tastes disgustingly sweet. I like the Dutch beer Grolsch for it's bitter taste, but sadly Grolsch is not low-carb.
