Statins

Hi!!

I've just finished reading TSP, and it makes very good sense to me. I've been on a lc WOE on/off for three years, and was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic one year ago.

My question has to do with the Statin drugs. My cholesterol is slightly elevated (with a lower HDL than normal), and my physician wants me to take a Statin. TSP supports the use of no drugs, and I agree. This may be a battle with my physician, since I told her 3 months ago I would try my diet, and would take the Statin if she still thinks it's needed. After reading TSP and the views she has on Statins, I am more determined than ever not to take the drug.

Anyone have experience with Statin drugs to lower cholesterol?

statins

About a year and a half ago my total cholesterol # got too 263 and my MD strongly recomended a statin to control it. I agreed, knowing I had little motivation to deal with high cholesterol via diet/exercise. I used Baycol, which brought me down to 190 in a month. After 9 months of use my mail order drug outfit told me it was removed from the market, as 30 or so people had died from using this statin (made my Bayer). My MD wanted me to try another one, as Baycol was fairly new, but I disagreed, and am now HIGHLY motivated to control my cholesterol via nutrition and exercise.

So, statins do bring cholesterol down, but too risky for me. They can also damage your liver.

I hope you find some motivation to control your cholesterol level via nutrition and exercise; that episode with Baycol did it for me. LOL
