1 egg + 2 whites

Hey PP advocates! What I would like to know is why you have to eat 1 egg + 2 egg whites for breakfast when all I like to eat is 1 egg period. or why can't I eat 2 eggs period. any one know? mary L.

I'm assuming you are looking at Protein Equivalency Chart A?

1 egg plus 2 egg whites plus 1 oz of meat is equivalent to just about 20 grams of protein (1 meal serving if you are budgeted for 60 grams of protein per day)

The chart is just an example to show what you would eat per meal in protein at that level of 60 grams protein per day.

There's nothing wrong with eating one egg or two eggs or 3 eggs.

1 whole egg is roughly 6 grams protein

I would think that it's because of the arachidonic acid in eggs. This is from the PP website and its also covered in the PP book.

Are there people who should avoid red meat and eggs?

Yes. Some people just seem to have a sensitivity to them. It may be the arachidonic acid found in red meat and egg yolks. These people lose weight just fine eating them, but their elevated blood pressure or cholesterol won’t come down until they stop the red meat and eggs. Sometimes people do better avoiding them if you are suffering from hypertension, elevated cholesterol, fluid retention, or inflammation such as arthritis, bursitis, asthma, allergies and rashes.

1 egg may not be enough protein for you

I suspect you may need more protein than just 1 egg (maybe you're getting it through something else...that's fine).

But 1 egg at your meal isn't enough protein according to your MINIMUM protein requirement.

So keep that in check!

It is so hard to eat 2 eggs. It just dosen't sit well in my stomach sometimes. I even have the best eggs available. Free range. There is nothing like their flavor and color! Today I had two with bacon, One hr. later I felt ill. Is that normal? Like you want to toss your breakfast! I just felt so sick to my stomach! :( I couldn't eat till 4:00 pm. and that was an effort. If they're making you feel sick, um, maybe you shouldn't eat them. There is no "carved in stone" rule about having to eat eggs for breakfast.

Hey Karen, You are right of course about it not being written in stone to eat eggs. Old habits die hard. It is just so easy to do what you know especially when you are on the run all the time. .. Have to start searching. I haven't even tried to think of what else to eat for breakfast. ! It was always my no worry meal!!! Mary L.
