Search function not working?

I tried to search for a few things on different boards but the search function does not work? Did something happen to it? Is this permanent?

Nancy LC Fri, Dec-18-15 22:56

Use the Advanced search. I like the google one.

The forum search tool had to be de-indexed (essentially disabled) a long time ago, due to problems with server crashing. Yes, it's permanent, at least for the foreseeable future.

Many members have found our Google search tool to be helpful. Click "Search" on the toolbar above, then select "Advanced Search". Or .. click here. The Google search box is right there at the top. Make sure forum.lowcarber.org is selected to limit results to this forum only.

Hope this helps :rose:

The google search function doesn't work for me. I get an error from google. I took a screenshot of the error if you would like to see it.

I entered your search terms (apparently: "cocoa+unsweetened") .. hit submit and got back 1,547 results. Did you use the Gooogle search bar from our advanced search page?

Perhaps try using a different browser?

Okay. That's interesting. I'm using Mozilla Firefox currently. It might be an extension that is interfering. I tried using Google Chrome but I got the same error. Again it might be and extension in both browsers that is affecting the search.

I chose Advanced search from the Search drop down menu, which then presents me with a Google search input with two radio buttons for 'web' and 'forum.lowcarber.org'. That is the way I came across the described error.

Thanks for testing this for me. I'll do some more troubleshooting.

Strange. I use firefox, too, and I haven't gotten that error. A workaround is to just go to google in a different tab, and do your search with your keywords + site:forum.lowcarber.org .

Seems like search has been gone for a long time.

Very awkward.
Doesn't help.

I just joined up, full of enthusiasm, but this is disappointing news.

The Search / Advanced Search is a really fundamental tool for a large forum. I appreciate that a general Google-type search is possible across the forum, but it's not the same at all, and has far fewer possibilities.

Have you asked vBulletin for advice? I've administered a few vB boards in my time, and always found them to be extremely helpful for solving technical issues. There's no obvious reason why there should be server crashes, even with millions of posts. Maybe it was a temporary issue?

You can use the advanced search. It uses google to search the forum. Works better than the old one ever did.

It's been years but I used to admin a forum and had been using some sort of opensource software and there would be periodic updates. Have the developers of this board ceased updating it? It kinda sucks not having a working search function.

The Google search is not very good when you are searching for recent posts.

It's frustrating for sure, and the Webmaster is looking at alternatives. For now, though .. the Google search tool is the best option to work with this outdated version of vBulletin. For the record, our webmaster was formerly a contributing developer for vBulletin.

We will keep everyone posted of any planned changes and/or upgrades in the months ahead.

In any search engine (I use Bing), type in:

site:http://forum.lowcarber.org/

after a space enter your search

i.e.

site:http://forum.lowcarber.org/ cocoa unsweetened

try it:

site:http://forum.lowcarber.org/ cocoa unsweetened

Above works for almost any forum.

Thank you! :)
