Carbohydrates Addict Test

Carb cravings and binges can be caused by addiction to carbs as well as an allergy to certain carbs. To ascertain if it's carb addition, try this link here.

Thanks

I had never seen that website before. Thanks for pointing the way. :)

Update.

I BELONG HERE!!

My goodness I do, I really do. I am a severe addict. I knew this all along. Not sure why I didn't come here 1st, instead of Atkins.

His Muse Fri, Jun-27-03 10:37

I've taken this kind of test before and I am definitely a carb addict. Cutting out many carbs I already have more energy.

Maribet Sat, Jun-28-03 01:02

When I tried the CAD test I think it was one of the few times I ever got 100% on an exam.

I hear that. I think I got a 90% or something.

Lonely Sun, Jul-13-03 01:04

I got 100% on this test, too. Now, can someone please tell me why CAD is better for me than Atkins? It seems Atkins is for carb addicts, as well?

Zuleikaa Sun, Jul-13-03 06:04

Atkins induction is great for carbohydrate addicts (CAs). However, when you move off induction and start adding back in carbier vegetables and sf products, many CAs find themselves reacting with ever larger appetites, eating more than four times a day, and cravings for carbs. This is a sign that CAs are reacting with higher insulin levels. Insulin is the hunger hormone and stores fat. Therefore, many CAs, though eating a lot fewer carbs can find their weight loss stalling. Some can even gain weight.

Some CAs can continue to do well on Atkins by controlling insulin raisers, triggers, and by making sure not to eat more than four times a day. That can be tricky because CAs react to total carbs and sweet tasting foods even if they have no carbs.

Darn, I only got a 70% -- does that mean I need to study harder? ;) The only reason I didn't hit 100% is that I've had to watch my eating for a while now.

Zuleikaa Tue, Aug-05-03 18:03

Welcome!!! This is one test where you wish to flunk, lol!!!

skeeweeaka Sun, Aug-17-03 01:09

People I am so struggling.... I just took that test and scored 100%...crap... Of course I knew this... I haven't lost a pound in a month... I did Atkins and lost 7... After induction switched to PP and lost 4....

On Atkins I felt tired...and like I had the flu.... PP a little more energy but still felt like I was on Atkins...I need more carbs, fruits and vegetables in my diet...and less fat....I feel it... My face is breaking out...and I know it has to be from the fats...

I've been on CAD before and really got frustrated after about a month because I wasn't losing...or rather i was losing and gaining the same pound... I'm just venting...lol

Will try and be patient...feeling a little out of control this am...3:11 and I can't sleep..... I think I'm lookin for a panacea and there is none... Tired of living my life fat... Tired of not going anywhere and putting my life on hold until I lose weight...geez... Life is truly passing me by... I ask myself...what have I been doing...???? EATING!!!

Zuleikaa Sun, Aug-17-03 07:19

Skeeweeaka
Your message has been heard loud and clear. You need to come home to CAD. This is wear you belong!!! CAD can be very flexible within the CAD boundaries and rules. Need more protein, fine!! Need less fat, fine!!! Need lower carb and more complex carbs, fine!!! You can tailor the program to your needs. The only thing you can't do is eat more than four times a day and have more than one RM a day.

Why don't you print out the cheat sheet and stallers list and go over what you've been doing the past few weeks. I'm sure you'll find many things that are causing your stall and weight gain. Eating more than 4 times a day is an obvious one.

Good luck. I think you'll find peace with CAD/CALP.

skeeweeaka Sun, Aug-17-03 17:33

Thanks Zuleikaa.... I apologize for all the emotion but I'm rather hormonal... It's that TOM...so I'm crying...craviing chocolate...and in pain... I've thought about moving over to CAD but just started the 5-6 meal a day thing middle of last week....

It does seem to be working down 1 pound... The exercise is paying off too.... My arms and legs are smaller and I'm starting to see muscle...GEEZ... Can't believe that one so my body might just be gaining muscle which I know is heavier than fat.... I'll give this a couple more weeks.... Definitely thinking of switching...and using it to maintain my weight loss once I get to my goals...50-70 pounds from now...

Thanks again....

MontyLiz Mon, Aug-18-03 03:06

Yup, I scored 100 percent too. The silly thing is, a friend told me about this two years ago, and really, really tried to persuade me this was my problem. She's now lost 3 stone in weight, and I've gained ten pounds, while following my high-carb diets and then binging. DOH!!

Anyway, just read Charles Clarke and have been following this for three days and feel awful, but not hungry. I have a good feeling about this, but think that a carb addict diet would probably work for me as I definitely am one!

What's the best book in anybody's humble opinion out there? Thanks, Ruth

Zuleikaa Mon, Aug-18-03 11:48

I think it depends on your age. If you're in your twenties or early thirties CAD might be best. If in your late thirties or forties, CALP.

MontyLiz Tue, Aug-19-03 10:41

Thanks! I didn't realize there was a reply because I only scrolled down to the end of page 1. Just got it now - I'm 32, so I'll try CAD. Tried Charles Clarke on 4th day today, and felt sooooo terrible, that I just had a tuna sandwich at lunchtime with two slices of wholemeal bread, and felt absolutely great again. I really hope the CAD way of eating isn't such a shock to the system. I was having about 30 grams of carbs a day, but felt tired, headachey, fluey and heavy. With 3 kids off school I just couldn't cope. Hey, maybe I'm just a wimp, but now I don't really know what to do. What's the CAD thing actually like to follow? Thanks, Ruth

Zuleikaa Tue, Aug-19-03 11:21

Why don't you read some of the threads on the CAD forum. And you can visit the journals of posters there and see what they eat. It may be the easiest diet you've ever been on.

Just remember, it's not Atkins with a Reward Meal!!! A lot of the foods are different!!

MontyLiz Wed, Aug-20-03 01:50

O.K.! Just off to give it a whirl - thanks for replying - Ruth

Valkyrie Mon, Oct-06-03 10:11

I took the test in the CALP book and scored 48 out of 50 but never tried this test until now. I was posting on another thread about being five weeks on CALP and finally starting to lose weight after years and years of trying and failing. I am ashamed to say I scored 100%. I suppose this is self evident now that I have found CALP to be the only diet that has worked for me.

I am still finding it difficult to include carbs in my RM's and find that I add the odd half a roast potato or some carrots or peas instead of other carbs and I haven't yet added a proper sweet (but then I am a diabetic so avoid sweet things anyway).

I am SO pleased I found CAD/CALP at last before it was too late :D

mem2 Sun, Oct-12-03 16:07

I have been on Atkins for about 15 months and am having a hard time maintaining. I don't seem to be satisfied with my food as I did when I began Atkins. I just went to that website and took the test and according to it I am definitely an addict! I went to Amazon.com and ordered the calp book. So it will be interesting to learn about this plan and see if it meets my needs better than Atkins. I am glad I found this thread. Maybe I will be frequenting this thread more often. This is the first time I have been here.

Zuleikaa Sun, Oct-12-03 18:38

Welcome!!! There is a lot of information here and the CADers are a friendly, helpful bunch.

ndelacourt Fri, Oct-24-03 16:50

10 out of 10 for me too!

On Atkins I feel tired, achey...and I only lose about 3 lbs the first week and then I stall.

Maybe I will look into CAD.....

Thanks!
Natascha

Zuleikaa Mon, Oct-27-03 08:44

It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. It might be the easiest "diet" you've ever been on.

Houdini68 Fri, Jan-16-04 09:02

Thanks for posting this link, it sounds interesting. I'm going to go take the test right now - I have a feeling I'll ace it, LOL!

Shirl 1 Sat, Apr-17-04 17:36

I am 100 percent full blown carb addict. I get out of control, but with eating the carb's in a 1 hour meal, I can control them and don't get hungry.

ALEKA Mon, May-24-04 20:02

Zuleikaa--

I have been on Atkins for near a year now--got down to 218 from 251 and have now regained 10 pounds and am finding difficulty to stay on Atkins now. I have steared clear of potatoes-sweet potatoes--pastas and heavier carbs but now am having a very difficult time craving ice creams, sugars, candy bars-pies- cakes, etc since I have gone on low carb breads and the Atkins Ice cream bars etc.

Now I am on a search again. I have tried to go back on induction several times--tried to stay below 30 grams of carbs but can only maintain that for 4-5 days tops and then it is blow away the diet again and again.

I am wondering if I would do better on this diet. I am finding myself also craving fruit--oranges-watermelon etc.

Do you have any suggestions for me. Could the CAD be good for me?? My daughter has done this and has been successful. wondering if this might be what I need to. Know I passed the test with flying colors and then went to Atkins instead of the CAD--and she got irritated with me. Maybe she was right. Maybe I should have gone to Cad instead.

Got any suggestions for this old gal here?? Thanks much---Alice

Zuleikaa Sat, May-29-04 10:51

The symptoms you're showing are classic. We call it the binge cycle. You can only maintain Atkins for a few days to a week and boom, off you fall. CAD sounds perfect for you. You don't have to get into the heavier cars but summer is the time for fruits. A lot of us CADers go lighter on carbs during the spring and summer (fruits/veggies) and heavier on them in winter (baked goods/starches/sweets). I think it's just the way we're made.

Do come join us!!

ALEKA Sat, May-29-04 11:41

Thanks Zuleika--Appreciate you response--Daughter has the book and has left it here. Funny thing though--am afraid to start another one at this point since I know what I should do on Atkins--Also have thought of Protine Power as well.

One other thing--I am a coffee and cream drinker-specially in the morning--you said that can cause stalls in weight loss. Is it the coffee or the cream??

Anway--Going to re-think all of this. Thanks--Alice/Aleka

sugarfreak Mon, Jun-07-04 09:55

100% as well!! Definitely nothing to be proud of. Well at least its getting better. The cravings are down.
