my hubby had a fasting blood sugar of 125. on another day 3-4 hours after eating it was 70. i thought the results would be reversed. i am trying to get him to have another test but no luck so far.

Well, sometimes the morning BGL is a bit high because it dropped during the night and the liver kicked in to raise it. Mine drops a bit low before lunch too sometimes - it just means it's time to munch.
Is he diabetic or are you just testing blood for general info? The really true test is the HA1C test which gives you the average BGL over the whole period - 24 hours a day.

The way most doctor's diagnose diabetes is BG is greater than 110 in the morning after fasting, and between 100 to 109 is glucose impaired. Not that I agree with that, but that's the criteria for the moment.
Even though his blood sugar readings do return to normal during the day, he is probably starting to get a bit insulin resistant. Is he LCing with you?
Good luck,

He is not on LC with me. He is very fit and active...opposites do attract. His fasting BS was taken after work, so a 20 hour fast and 8 hours on a construction site. I don't know if that makes a difference.

Yes, it makes a big difference. After that long without food and working hard 8 hours of that 20, his liver was producing glycogen to keep him going and probably quite a bit of it!
Fasting more than 10 hours for a blood glucose test can throw off the results due to glycogen dumping.
One high blood glucose reading does not necessarily mean a problem or a diagnosis of diabetes, but it should be enough to get your doctor's attention and get him/her wondering what's going on. If the doctor was concerned about the reading, they would have requested further tests such as an HgbA1C test to show what the average blood sugar has been over a period of weeks or a glucose tolerance test.

This is an absolutely normal reading, if even a bit on the low side.

Thank you everyonr for your reply. My DH was diagnosed with cancer 7 months ago and I feel lucky that he is following through with his doctor's orders for that. He will do his lab work for the oncologist but not his internist. I will continue to nag, and nag!
