I wonder if anyone would care to comment on my discovery.I eat
a well balanced diet (approx 40/30/30).I decided just for
kicks to try eating low glycemic foods(same macronutrient
ratio)for about 10 days. For carbs I was eating mainly low
glycemic fruits and veggies. After about 7 days I recognized
those telltale signs of ketosis(hard to sleep, smelly
urine, lots and lots of energy, and I could see my gut
deflating)The only change I made was concentrating on low gi
carbs as opposed to moderate to high gi carbs which I was
previously eating. If anyone has any comments I would be
interested in hearing them!

The problem is the definition of fiber as a "carb." You're
getting much less food that converts to glucose, replacing it
with food that is indigestible "carbs". Basically, you appear
to be eating a low carb diet. Whoever is in charge of
definitions needs to get his act together.

From what I have read on the internet about ketones, this
sounds a great way to lose weight, but you may need to
increase your protein to avoid losing muscle mass. If you
increase your amount of carbs in your diet a little, the
unpleasant symptoms should decrease as the body doesn't burn
quite as much fat as fast as it is. Low glycemic eating is a
great way, "the way" to lose fat normally. going to xs with
any thing is not recommended, so don't make it low carb, low
glycemic or it could be a problem.

David

I'm on a very low GI diet with 56% carbs - have no ketosis, no
smelly urine, and a stable weight. The 78 g of fiber make for
a lot of bowel movement, though. My lipid studies have been
excellent.

My comment is that these 'telltale signs' mean *absolutely
nothing* in the absence of actual chemical tests for ketones
in the urine. Get some keto-stix and then maybe - just *maybe*
- someone with an education will take you seriously.

I hear an overactive imagination is one of the symptoms
of ketosis.
