I was plotzing the other day about the lack of milk in my diet, and a friend suggested soy milk. I hadn't considered it, but took a look when I went to the store and ended up with this:

West Soy Organic Unsweetened SoyMilk

Carbs 5
Fiber 4

This is per 8 ounce serving. I'm assuming one serving has 1 carb, or is there special soymilk math (like the yogurt math) that makes this calculation different (and not in my favor?)

I made a latte with espresso, soymilk and atkin's chocolate syrup, topped off with MUCH LESS heavy cream than I would have used before. Before trying the soy milk I would have put heavy cream in and stretched it with water. You have to understand that Iced Lattes are my life and this soymilk version of it suits me to a T.

Thanks for any insight you can share on soy milk!

No special soymilk math, but you may want to run it through the Hidden Carbs Inspector under Low Carb Tools at the top of the page, just to make sure.

Plain soymilk is generally very low in carbs. I like to use it in certain baked goods - like flax muffins - because it makes them very light and moist. The carbs are also lower than if using sour cream or cream cheese.

A caveat: Enjoy your lattes, but anything you find yourself needing to consume on a regular basis are usually the things you should be avoiding.

I know I have a little coffee problem....it's just so darn good and it keeps me out of trouble in the afternoon when I want a snack of some kind and there's nothing available.

I find it to be filling and now with the soymilk it's got some nutritional value...I'll take what you said to heart though and examine the thought process behind it.

Thanks for the support!

I love the Westsoy unsweetened soymilk. Last week I tried the Vanilla flavored. Great. I count it as 1 carb. Love the latte idea.

Vanilla is usually higher carb - I'll have to check that out!
