I've read Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution Book and have been on the program for 5 weeks! I believe I'm doing everything right, but I'm not losing weight (lost only 3 pounds)! I'm excited that I've been able to eat according to the program for this amount of time - previously I've only been able to "diet" for no more than 2 weeks. HOWEVER, sad to say, no results. Everyone I know who has done this is losing weight like crazy. I do believe in the theory, but am puzzled why it's not working for me? Can anyone help?

How about posting some of your daily menus so more experienced low carbers can look at them? It's hard to figure out what you should do differently without more information.

Of course, makes sense. I just entered my food intake for yesterday ( a typical day) on fitday.com and it registered at 24 carbs. I also think one of my problems is that I've been on HRT for a few years now. I actually stopped taking my estrogen, happily with no side effects. Also, I was drinking caffeinnated coffee until 2 weeks ago - I've now stopped that. Maybe those two things have been my inhibitors.

May I also suggest you measure some areas as well? I find that I either lose pounds OR inches. There are several weeks where I only lost 1 pound or nothing, but lost inches instead. I usually shrink first and then the scale seems to catch up with the lost inches.
I usually measure my waist, hips, thigh, wrist and forearm. For some reason, there are times when I only lose inches in one body part at a time and sometimes that is my wrist! Like I need a skinnier wrist.
Yesterday I went on an old clothes trying spree. I haven't changed weight in a couple of weeks, but things are still fitting differently. Lots of people here call using clothes as a way to measure success the pant-o-meter. I find that the pant-o-meter is more accurate than the number on the scale. Or sometimes in my case it is the bra-o-meter.

Hi Jayflo! I'm fairly new here too, but your post about being on hrt caught my attention. I have been on hrt for about 2 years and gained weight also even though I was following a LC lifestyle. I have recently found this site and clued into the fact of hidden carbs. Much to my surprise decaf coffee, salt and eggs contain carbs that I was not counting as well as my water consumption was nowhere near enough. Therefore I am now starting from scratch hoping for the best.
Please keep posting so I can hopefully get support and feedback from a fellow HRT user. :) ;)

Have you read the chapter on metabolic resistence in new diet rev.? It's supposed to give you solutions to help you lose weight if you don't see much change. I haven't read it yet since I know why I'm not losing weight faster (ttom + too much cheese and half and half lol). Also, you may want to read the chapter on induction again.

I use FitDay.com to track everything that I'm eating and I've found out that there are hidden carbs in a few foods that I didn't think of (coffee.... ah, I was so sad to find out about coffee), but keeping track of everything also showed me that, for me, calories do count.
Now in the Atkins book, most of the time they say don't worry about calories only worry about carbs. But every now and then, Dr. Atkins will slip in a quiet "watch your portions" kind of message. He seems to be saying that while low-carbing provides us with a metabolic advantage, that calories eventually do count.
My weight stalled out even though I was keeping my carbs low and it turned out that I was eating around 2500 calories a day. Way too much... or should I say "weigh" too much?... for my frame.
Keeping track of various elements like calories, carbs, exercise, water, supplements, medications may help you identify which combination of each is the most effective for you.
Cheers,
Nelle

Hi
I agree that you should go to Fitday.com and record your foods. It is too hard to guess calories, carbs, fats and proteins, This site is sooooo helpful.
Another thing, start a journal and let others see what you are eating. You will get lots of advice from all of us that have been on the diet a little longer than you. I found that you have to tweak your plan when you are stalling. I also found out I was eating way toooo much sodium. Fitday will tell you how much you are consuming.
As far as HRT, I have been on them for 11 years. I thought I couldn't lose either...not true, I have lost 23 pounds.
Hope some of these tips will help you. Good luck to you.
