One of the last thing Montignac told me before I resigned from is Web site was: There is no reason not to have wine with your meal: One glass in phase1 and two glasses in phase2.
I am a little sceptical about that. Wine always gives me bad cravings for sugar as it does for a lot of people I know. On the other hand I enjoy that small glass so much with my meat that I don’t mind the sugar craving.
The real question is: Will the wine affect my weight lost?
Does anyone know the Glycemic Index for it?

Red wine ok, white wine bad
I drank 1 small glass of red wine with my evening meals during phase 1 with no problems.
I'll find precise GI later

Ok - this is what I've found
According to Mr Michel "flaky" Montignac - a little wine high in tannin (i.e. red, not white) helps to reduce LDL cholesterol (bad) and raise HDL cholesterol (good).
Make sure you have wine that is dry, and not "manipulated" to make it more palatable.
he suggests extreme moderation in phase 1, and 2-3 glasses ok in phase 2.
This is all from Eat Yourself Slim.
NGR says (and I'm paraphrasing):- Alcoholic beverages contain very little carbs. Most wines and liquors contain virtually none. Beer does.
Haven't been able to find specific GI values though :(
Sorry

very dry white and red wines lower the gi of the meals. my first time around, i drank a few glasses each night and lost wonderfully. now my second time around, i am not drinking at all, or at least trying to! it does make me more hungry now, plus leads me to extra snacking. this effect seems to last the next day as well. so sad, i love wine!!

This is a query concerning when it's o.k. to eat cheese. I know the French enjoy cheese after a meal, but is it appropriate to finish dinner composed of good carbs, like wh wheat pasta, brown rice, etc. with cheese? Help

Spang and Daneo, thank you both for answering this one. I think that, because foods that induce sugar craving usually have a high GI, I thought that wine had a high GI too. I am glad I can enjoy a small glass of Bordeaux with my meat.

i have heard that in france, when having cheese for dessert, those wanting to lose weight still eat it, but without the bread. as spang said, it is not the best choice after a carb heavy meal though.

In France, we don't eat cheese for dessert but right before dessert.
Cheese is fat. So you can eat cheese only with pro/fat meals, but never with carbos (pastas, bread...). Though, in phase 2, you may want to eat cheese after good carbs.

Ironic that Montignac, who is a businessman, can't manage to get a decent product going, while Atkins, who was a doctor, managed to get a whole industry going.
