Well, I think the best way to get your metablism going is exercise. I read a study recently that said that people who replaced smoking with walking not only didn't gain weight when they quit, they stayed with their decision and lost weight.
I am not an expert on the subject, but it seems like if you replace the smoking with pills, then when you quit the pills you will still be where you are now.
If you don't want to walk, try using free weights to build muscle.
Don't be in a hurry. Give your body time to adjust to the change. Remember, you gave up smoking for your health. The key word here is health. And diet pills won't help that.
There is another forum on here about that though. About supplements. I believe I saw it in the exercise forum. Good luck.

I also quit smoking in September. Since then I gained 15 pounds. I knew when I quit this would happen but I decided that it was more important to quit. In the New Year I decided it was time to take control and responsibility for my body and my health. If I didn't no one else would. I started on CAD and after a few weeks I was ready to start the next step. I bit the bullet and joined Curves gym (did I mention that I really really hate exercise). I joined Curves because it was only 30 minutes 3 times a week. I had tried several diet supplements prior to this which gave me hope but only ended up costing me money.
In the past 6 weeks (with Curves and my low carb diet) I have lost 7 pounds. Now that I am in my forties the number on the scale doesn't mean as much as it once did. More importantly I know that muscle weighs more that fat and I am so proud to say that I have also lost 8 inches. All my clothes fit me much better, I feel inspired and look forward to my 30 minutes at the gym. I would rather spend my money on Curves than on supplements that don't work. Most gyms will give you a free weeks tryout. Also, Curves has a plan that doesn't lock you in for any length of time if you don't want to be. You could try it for a month like I did, I'm staying with them...
Good luck

Excellent advice
To many people fall for the over priced highly hepted up supplements, that most do not work or some are very dangerous, just cause they are sitting in a health food store does'nt mean they are safe.
