Good morning! Quick question on Grape Nuts. I was reading the nutrition label and it reads: (based on cereal w/o milk)

Serving size: 1/2 cup
Calories: 210
Total fat: 1 g
Total Carb: 47 g
Fiber: 5 g
Other Carb: 37 g

So, does this translate into 5 net carb per serving? According to Atkins, in order to get the net carb count you subtract the fiber and any other carbs from the Total Carb amount. What do you all think? :help:

I thought net carbs was total carbs minus fiber. which would put grapenuts at 42 grams of carbs.

The "other" carbs could be sugars. Some label will have total carbs, fiber, and sugars listed. (fiber and sugar being a sub catagory of total carbs)

Fiber is subtracted from the total carbs because it has no effect on blood sugar.
that is why we look for the net carbs vs. total carbs. Fiber is good, sugar is bad.
