I have been low carbing for 2 weeks now and did not do induction as Atkins calls for. I have however cut out all grains pasta rice bread cereals out of my diet. I have fluctuated between 7 and 3 lbs of weight loss. Is this normal and because I didn't do induction will it not work? I don't want to feel like I am cheating by not doing induction I am limiting myself to around 50 carbs a day. My feeling is that I will have a slower weight loss than some of the other people I have been reading about. I feel this is right for me and want to know if there is a problem with it? :) :)

I don't see why it would, you are just not going to go into ketosis (as fast? at all?). Why don't you do the Zone diet isn't it made with more carbs in mind?

It depends on where your carbs are coming from. Eating lots of green veggies is good. Eating 25 low carb bars a day is not. ;)
Protein Power has two phases, one starts at 30 carbs, for people with a lot to lose and the other starts at 55 carbs for those with less to lose.
Schwartzbien is higher carb and works on healing your body and is particular about where your carbs come from.
The glycemic index would indicate what effect certain foods might have on your blood sugar and insulin.
You may have a slower weight loss than some people, but everyone loses at a different rate.
You could always click on the link on the right of Which low carb plan is right for me?
It's a good idea to read some books about low carbing and pick a plan to follow. I certainly wouldn't want to try to drive across the country without a map.

Hello.
(not a doctor's opinion but ...) I do not see why it should be a problem HOWEVER, it is good, as said by Beth, to read a little bit to try and understand certain things
REmember, you are changing your way of eating and so you need to understand where the important elements of your "diet" (i.e. food intake) are coming from.
All the low carb plan can be adapted by each person however I would suggest reading about food supplements, what you can and cannot have, hidden carbs, sugars....
You make it what YOU want with the correct info...

Hello I am a newbie here and am really confused. I have been on this low carb diet now for 6 weeks. Dr. B's. I have read some of Atkins book and have come to the knowledge that the more protein that you eat the more it fuels the ketones and burns off the fats. Well at the clinic I go to they tell me that if i eat over 7 oz of proteins per day, this will stop my ketones. Can anyone help me with this question. I have asked them at the clinic but these nurses don't seem to be very knowledgable about this type of dieting. I have one more month to go (prepaid) with dr. B's and think that I will cease and start Atkins. This is such a hard diet and find that I am getting tired and my body is getting very stressed out because of the lack of something. Has anyone else had this problem. I would love to get some feedback and some advice if possible. I still have another 70 lbs to lose. Have lost 25 so far in the 6 weeks. :(
Thankyou
Julia
Great Health to you all.

Hi Julia,
We actually don't support the Dr Bernstein's clinic diet on this forum. It is a proprietary plan - we only support plans that are published. We also feel it to be extremely unhealthy, as it is so low calorie. Your body is probably tired and stressed out due to the lack of calories.
So I would definitely suggest you switch either to Atkins, or another low carb plan. If you look to the side of the screen, you'll see "Which low carb plan is right for me?" - which has summaries of the major plans. Choose the plan that best suits your lifestyle, buy the book, read it, and go for it!
All the best to you, Julia.

Hi Julia. Just to clarify: there are 2 Dr. Bernstein's who are concerned with weight loss.
In southern Ontario, Dr. Stanley Bernstein has a chain of clinics where, for MANY $$$$, you go each day and get a shot of some kind of vitamins & supplements. His eating plan is also reported to be VERY low calorie and not particularly low carb. (I say reported because I have never gone but I do know people who have.)
He has not published a book and thus his plan is NOT available publicly AND it costs a lot. Most importantly it may not be really LC. So we can't offer advice on how to do it or what effects or consequences there may be from following it.
However, there is a highly regarded plan by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein who has written books about his Diabetes Solution which IS an LC way of managing diabetes and we do support that one with a forum and discussion.
Dr. Richard Berstein is a diabetic himself who has managed his own disease for years through LC and has excellent advice for diabetics.
Perhaps you can find a website for the Ontario Bernstein Clinics and locate people who are on your plan. Hope you lose, whichever you do.

I know for a fact that eating over 7 oz of protein will NOT stop ketones, considering I eat more than that everyday. I also know that calorie restriction lower than 1600 calories a day results in an adjustment of my metabolism so that I store more fat on less calories.
