Hi  My name is Pat and I'm new to this WOE and forum also. I read a lot of the threads for advice. I've been on Atkins since Feb 17th and as of today have lost 20lbs.
I'm following the plan as far as the food and carb stuff but I know that I need to drink more water and exercise more. I tried this WOE because I have a friend who had the Gastric Bypass Surgery yesterday and when she started her practice diet in February I told her I would start a diet in support of her.
I haven't attempted a diet in 15 years so I didn't go through the whole yo-yo dieting stuff. I never thought I was fat :daze: OH, WELL!

I stuck to the Induction to the letter and stayed at or below 20 carbs. I haven't put anything on Fitday, but a lot of people post what they eat so that more experienced LCs can tell them if they're doing it right and if not where they're going wrong.
Until you get the book the atkinscenter.com site will give you the list of acceptable foods for each phase of Atkins. I studied that site and read it for a month before I bought the book and started Induction.
I was never a fruit or fruit juice person, so I don't miss having fruit but just to have something sweet I do occasionally eat strawberries. I've did the adding and subtracting carbs until I found that I can have 30-35 carbs a day and still lose 2 - 3 lbs per week.
Eventhough I figured that out I still don't venture out in the food arena too much. I'm always on the run so a typical day for me
Brkfst:
two eggs with cheese and a hamburger patti.
(sometimes I'll have smoked sausage, bacon or steak)
Lunch:
Lettuce, tomato salad with bacon bits and Ranch dressing.
(if I'm out I'll get something like Italian beef and sausage and just eat the meat with nothing on it.
Dinner
Thin cut New York Strip Steak (the steak is good with mozzarella cheese
/or chicken
( and a bowl of spinach or broccoli)
I still go back and forth between decaf and regular coffee but
I use Splenda for sweetner and I don't get overly hungry so I usually just have water, Diet Rite or coffee between meals.
Get that little $15.00 George Foreman grill. When I am hungry knowing that my food will be done in less than 10 minutes makes it worth the wait.
Surf this site and you'll find that whatever questions you may have someone has asked and it's been answered.
This site is awesome!

Hey Misty and Geri,
Geri I wish I could say that I only weigh once a week but I just can't help weighing about every three days. I'm pretty lucky in the work department. I don't have to get there real early so I usually have time to fix something at home. If I don't I stop at McDonalds, get a sausage and egg biscuit or muffin and throw away the bread. It was kind of gross :( at first but I guess I've acquired a taste for meat and eggs.
My mom is retired and lives close to my work so she'll usually fix me something or I fix something the night before and take with.
Instead of the peanuts try taking some string cheese sticks and raw broccolli and sour cream they are a lot lower in carbs than the peanuts.
I also have a good deal at home my son is 19 and he works and if he wants to eat he cooks for himself or eats out, my daughter is 6 and stays with my Mom during the week so I don't have to prepare any meals for anyone at home but me.
I don't belong to a gym but I bought a couple of step aerobic tapes on-line and I do these at home (I'm no pro, I usually watch more than I step) and I do exercise with some of the TV shows like Body Electric and Lite Cardio with Denise Austin.
I know it sounds backwards but I'm not ready to venture into the gym with little aerobic outfits until I get a lot closer to goal weight.
I do feel a lot more energized, I no longer have PMS and I just seem to have an overall feeling of well being.
We'll make it through this together and next year this time we'll be helping other newbies :D

Hope you guys are having a fun low carb day. I didn't get a chance to get on line yesterday.
Congrats on the weight loss Geri, that's always good news. I haven't weighed this week I'm going to wait until Sunday. I'll be happy with 2lbs.
I was so busy yesterday that I only ate once and that was a Juliene Salad at a restaurant. I've got to do better. Since I was out in downtown Chicago all day I didnt' drink much water because I didn't want to have to look for a bathroom every 1/2 hr.
I haven't cheated or been tempted yet but everyone loves to offer me donouts and potato chips I just politely decline, I don't bother telling them I'm LCing because I don't want to have to explain the whole plan.
Keep up the good work! :cheer:

Hey Everybody,
Well, life is full of coincidences, seems it's that TOM for all of us.
On Sunday I weighed 191 lbs meaning a total of 21 lbs down.
I felt so bloated by Wed that I weighed in and low and behold I had gained 4lbs.
I must admit that I felt a little discouraged but I felt so good emotionally and physically that I refused to let it get me down and guess what, I weighed this morning and was back at
191
Misty, I was craving something sweet myself and tried the sugar free jello with heavy whipped cream only about 5 carbs total and it satisfied my craving.
I was proud of myself yesterday, I went to a buffet with a group of friends for lunch and I walked right past the pizza and desserts.
I also felt good because I put on a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to fit in 3 years and everyone commented on my weight loss eventhough it's only 20lbs.
We're all entitled to a slip up now and then, I wanted a Sprite so bad about 3 weeks ago that I went and got it and enjoyed all 36g of Carbs.
I didn't get around to working out this week at all so, my goal for next week is to exercise at least three times.
Hang in there, we've still got a few months before bikini weather.
Talk to you guys soon, and have a great weekend.

Hi there Geri,
I'm new here too, but boy it helps to keep track of everything by writing in our journals.
I've been reading yours and I'll be your buddy too if you'll have me. i'm not new to this woe either. Ive been on and off this since 1998. But this time I know that it is the best thing for me and I want to stick with it. We can help each other there.
I noticed that you cant seem to find the ketostix in your town. I know where you can get them and they are fairly inexpensive, compared to the prices in my town. I compare them to the price at Walmart and they want 12.99 for 50, what a rip!!!
On this same website go the low carb mega store, click on low carb tools, then go to ketostix. They are only 7.95 for 100 sticks and 4.95 shipping, thats quite a difference wouldnt you say!! I also checked at Target and they want 12.99 for 25 sticks!!!! highway robbery!!!
So give it a shot and they really keep you on track and let you know where you stand when it comes to fat-burning. That way youll at least know that youre burning fat even though the scale may say youre stalling.
Best of luck to you and we'll help each other out along the way!
Come by my journal anytime, hope to see you soon!

Hey Gang,
I say gang because our little buddy system is growing :p This is great. I'll tell you a little about me. I'm 42, divorced with two kids (boy 19, girl 6). I've always been around 190-200 lbs. The weight has never really bothered me. Years ago a motivational speaker came to my job and she was a very large woman and she was extremely confident. One of her parting comments was "If you can't hide it, dress it up" and that became my motto.
I never tried to lose weight but I sure spent a lot of money on clothes and make-up, hair care, skin care etc, to keep it dressed up. :D
I had four motivating factors that led to my decision to try LC; My uncle had diabetes, my mother has diabetes and few weeks ago my brother was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and my friend who also was recently diagnosed with diabetes decided to undergo Gastric Bypass.
I don't want to be a diabetic :exclm: so I've sworn off carbs. I don't really do anything exciting in my personal life. I have a friend that I see socially but he has far too may issues to be considered anything other than a friend. He's good for making repairs around the house, fixing my computer, taking me places that I don't want to drive to (and a few other things  )
My work just got exciting within the last couple of weeks. I'll get to go to the construction garages for the telephone company and do Operational Reviews (lot's of guys ;) I'm sure to meet one that peeks my interest.
I'll give you guys updates as my life get's interesting

Gang!!...LOL...I like it...I've never belonged to a gang before. But this is a great one to belong to. Ok...here's a little bit about me. I'm 43 years old. I have 3 daughters, 15, 14 and 3. I've been married for 23 years. I'm a teacher by profession, but gave it up when my daughter was born to be a stay at home Mom. We too just got a new puppy, a cockapoo named Coco! I love being at home with my daughter, but its been a big adjustment and I miss the adult contact, so this is going to be a great site for me. Great going on e1's weight losses. With each other's help and support, I"m sure we'll all make it. :yay:

:D  :daizy:
Hi there gang!!!
There really is a gang here, and I'm glad to be apart of it.
Heres some news on me.
My life is centered around my children. And I chose that. I am very lucky to be able to stay home with them, and we have become used to doing without alot that we really dont need. I have 4 children (15, 13, 7, and 3), they keep me really busy. I'm 41, and have married for 17 yrs.
I havent always been overweight. At one point in my 20's I weighed 115lbs, but that was when I was in college, and you know you dont eat like you should. When I became pregnant with my first daughter I gave myself license to eat and gained 50 lbs. I lost about half of it and became pregnant with my second daughter. I was just starting to get rid of some of the weight, and my DH found me more attractive so I became pregnant without planning it. So I watched what I ate and only gained 30 lbs or so and lost all but 10 lbs, but when I nursed my kids I would get extremely hungry and I would put on about 15 lbs for each child, so there you have the skinny on me, and I'm fed up with feeling ugly!
I know what it was like to feel attractive and I dont feel that way anymore, Im tired of it. I wish that I was an alcoholic sometimes, (saying this I hope doesnt sound bad to anyone, because I dont mean anything bad, dont get me wrong) cuz they only have to deal with the lack of alcohol, which is not needed by the body for survival. Us carbohydrate addicts have to deal with food all day, every day 24/7, I just wish it was easier. I guess I have to look at it like this, if it was that easy it wouldnt be worth doing, and the reward wouldnt be as great.
i just live the normal life of not much excitement, but I'll fill you in if anything changes, I made sound depressed, but I'm really not, because I chose this life and I wouldnt trade it for the world. My children mean the world to me and I would give my life for each of them, And this is why I am doing this again, for the sake of my kids, so I may be around alot longer, to enjoy their lives.
Take care everyone, I enjoy this immensely, cuz I dont really get much support here at home. If it wasnt for this forum and everyones support and encouragement I dont think I could do it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, for all that you do, all the encouragement and kind words carry us through.

Well tomorrow I go the gym and step on the scale. I'm really hoping that this slump is over (crossing fingers here...legs...arms...eyes.....anything that will help LOL) Fitday was a lifesaver!!! What an eye-opener that was!
Shama- I know what you mean about it being hard to be around food all the time. Other addictions are different...you give up cigaretters, drugs, alchohol etc. completely and never have anything....but with food, you still have to eat and make good choices.
Geri- WTG!! :cheer: on the inches lost. I'm doing mine tomorrow, so i'll let e1 know then how I do. Glad you are having some company there lately! But when you're alone, remember we're here for you too! :)

I'm having a fun LC Sunday. I just left my Mom's and sister's house and boy did they laugh at me today. Like I said earlier I've always been around 190-200 so all of the clothes that I own are size 18 regular or size 16W. Well, all of my clothes are just a little too big now and they told me I looked like I was wearing my son's jeans today.
They begged me to go shopping and buy smaller jeans. Boy did that sound good :D . I haven't attempted a diet in the last 15 years or so therefore I don't have any leftovers from any past weight losses.
I don't want to shop every time I lose 10-15 lbs. so I'm not sure what I'm going to do for clothes in the meantime. My dress pants are 16W and are now quite large but since they have pleats in the front, I try and keep a stiff crease and hope no one notices the extra material that I used to fill out just a month and 20 lbs ago.
I've seen some posts on here where people are saying that they are fitting size 12's at 180 pounds and I just don't see how that's possible.
I'm still at 191 lbs I don't know how many inches I've lost but my clothes seem much too large now for just a 20lb loss so, but I'm not complaining.
Talk to you guys soon.

:hyper: I'm jumping for joy on your weight loss. Every little bit helps. I've been going back and forth between 191 and 193 for the past week, I don't mind at all because I'm eating good, staying full, feeling great and not gaining.
Misty, sounds like we have the same "ghetto booty" syndrome. That's where my weight is ( Measurements today 38/ 35/ 46) I don't think these hips and thighs will fit in a size 12 until at least about 150lbs. I can't figure out for the life of me where it comes from, I'm not shaped like anyone in my family
The guys don't seem to mind the shape at all, but I'm doing this for me. The "friend" that I talked about earlier is totally against this whole weight loss. He's a construction manager and when I go to his work his guys don't know that there's anything between us so they make all kinds of comments and send messages by him for me (I love it). So I think he's feeling insecure. He'll just have to get over it :exclm:
I finally checked out Fitday and put my food for today it's great, evenhough I didn't exercise I put in the 5 hours of house work I did today ( mopping, cleaning, scouring, laundry up and down the stairs etc.) and I still burned more calories than I took in
If you haven't already, give it a try. I put in my goal weight which I've decided is 150lbs by 10/01 and it told me that I need to loose 1.57 lbs per week. I can do this!
See you again soon, have a great LC Monday

YUCKKKKKKK but hey i love my job, and the $$ are good ... so what can i say , i can sacrifice my weekends, and the good thing about this is i dont have to fight the highschooler and junior highschoolers when me and the DB go out during the rest of the week HEHE :)

Hi gang! Your sunday is going great, super!!
CONGRATS!!!! :p :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Didnt forget you luddybell, dont get discouraged, you will see a change, just keep it up, dont stop, you wont be happy with yourself if you do (if you are at all like me.)
Tomorrow will be better for me, since this weekend was not. I fudged again, quite a bit, but tomorrow I'll be right back at it fullswing. I just have to have better willpower. Get-togethers kill me. I know I cant blame anyone but myself. I'm not going to beat myself up, I'll just pick myself and start over.
Talk to you all soon
Take care

Hi Gang! I'm looking forward to a loss today! WHOOOOHOOOOOOO! I'll post later on today because I like to weigh myself on Mondays at the gym on their electronic scale! If I have a loss, it will be the first one in 4 weeks!
Misty- Keep up the faith about that bikini! I don't know that I'll ever put this aging body into a bikini, but a nice one piece I think I could handle!
Shannon- You're right! You can't beat yourself up! Just makes you feel worse. Forget about, but learn something from it too and then keep on going! Hope your Monday is much better. You can do it! :)
Pat- I agree! Fitday was a wonderful thing for me! I think its what broke my stall finall! Pointed out some interesting things! The weekly weight loss it showed for you is definetely attainable and reasonable too! Keep at it and have a great Monday!
Geri- It's interesting the different types of body composition here. I'm hoping to be able to fit into a size 12 at my goal. However right now I'm saying... "Size 12...What is that?" But in time, I know i can get there! :spin:
Christy- Do you know if the apple cider vinegar pills and actually drinking apple cider vinegar give you the same results? I've been reading about this and am considering it. Seems to have lots of good health benefits!

Hi everyone, glad to see how great everyone is doing:). As far as the size 12 thing goes....i guess it really does depend on how you are built, i'm 5'10, and at 180 i could only squeeze into a 16, so if someone can fit into a 12 at 180...they should be happy.
Charran...I'm not sure if liquid apple cider vinegar has the same benefits of the tablets...i've only tried the tablets. I can't stand the taste so i could never try the liquid. They do have wonderful health benefits though. My hair and skin look so so much better. And for the weight loss, I've lost 54 lbs since the end of october2002, and thats even going off of the diet for almost 2 months....it may not work for everyone, but its relatively inexpensive, and its not dangereous in any way so it might be worth a try.
Luddybell....I wish you the best of luck getting to wear your bikinni this summer. I never thought i'd be able to wear one after having 3 kids in less then 4 years. I'm still not sure that i would wear one in public quite yet...but if you've ever heard of crunch pilates....you should try it. I started this last week, and my kids love doing it with me. I've already started to notice my stomach, butt and thighs shrinking, and you really feel great afterwards.
I'm glad everyone is doing so well and i wish you all the best of luck:)

WOW congratulations everyone !! you all are doing great !!!...i completely forgot to weigh this morn :bash: cant believe i forgot guess i will in the morn ..talking about the size 12 ..most of my weight is on top which is prob the most dangerous place to gain weight i loose in my hips and thighs and my waist and upper body is always last i have a big butt in fact thats what my ex said attracted him to me but i have no hips ..of course i buy womens clothes so honestly a 12 would prob be a 14 ...but i want to be a size 10 i mean a 10 that fits not a tight size 10 and i want to wear my levis ! there were so many posts when i got here i cant remember what everyone said so ill have to go back and read them again but i did see some good looses and im proud :D of everyone i have not used fit day to its fullest i didnt realize you could do all that calculating on there pat ...thats really cool im going back to check it all out again ..ill be back later

I see you were up early. Somewhere around the 3rd or 4th week of LCing I started waking up at 3:30 - 4:00 every morning. I make myself stay in bed most of the time until at least 5:00.
I read on one of the sites either Atkinscenter or somewhere that the increased energy causes you to wake up. Before LCing I wouldn't get up until at least 8:00- 8:30. I don't have a set time to be at work and most days I work from home.
I find that I get sleepy about 3:00 every day but I try not to take a nap becaue I don't want to be up all night. I'm averaging about
5 hours of sleep now. (Weirdest thing I've ever been through).
Happy to hear that there's less of you today than there was yesterday  way cool!
I'm so excited, my son who's 19 and about 5'7" / 270 lbs, looked at me this morning and said how good I looked and asked if I would teach him this WOE so he can loose weight. I've been on him to lose weight for years and finally gave up. Now that it's his idea and decision maybe he'll stick with it. I told him I'll even buy and fix his food for him. I'm so happy he's decided to do this with me :D
I've been to work and back at home already. I'll probably be back on here later tonight.

hi yall...pat and charran thank you for the thumbs up and cheers i appreciate it ...funny u said that pat about your son ..my youngest daughter asked me the same thing when i told her about my loss ...shes about 5'4" and about 160 only want to lose about 20-25lbs shesbeen trying ww and low fat and only lost one lb but i told her that was good and to do whats right for her but now she wasnts to try low carb so tonight i made her that ddpq that i have heard everyone raving about and it really is good the whole pizza from my calculations was only about 30 carbs and i got six servings out of it so thats about 5 carbs a serving , so i had it ready for her when she got home from work and she loved it and she had strawberries for dessert too with whipped cream so im going to try to help her too she had bacon and eggs for breakfast with a slice of lite wheat bread and a ceasar salad for lunch so she did well and said she felt full and satisfied so far ill help her all i an ...at least now i dont have to cook diff foods for her and that helps my son had lost almost 100 lbs on lc about 4 yrs ago and hes never gained it back
charran i thought u did good u lost 3 more lbs ..are u just wondering about the energy level?? i have my moments when i get sleepy/tired and when i go to bed i sleep well but wake up alot in the last week and by 530 my eyes are wide open
have yall tried the ddpq it really is good for a change although i feel really full prob something id make once a week or so ..tasted like real pizza to me ..well im gonna go to my journal and look at some others too talk to you all in a bit ...

Hi. you sound like my type of people. I am in my second week of atkins, and doing quite well - 6lbs in 8 days. I do weigh every day, and love it! I have once gone up by half a pound, but usually it is worth the effort. I always do it first thing in the am. I also do the Ketostix, and that re-assures me when I have not lost.
By the way, my son and I are coming thru SC in the summer. I was wondering if you knew how long it would take to drive from Columbia to Lake Lure in NC.
I was on CAD for a month and only lost 5 lbs, 3 of which I put back on during a brief but fattening hiatus! Yet with Atkins, I have more than exceeded that in less than half the time! So you can see why I am so happy with Atkins.
And the forum is a great help.

HMMMMM......after re-reading that post and my journal, i depressed myself....lol.....Geri, it is just more the energy thing. I really expected to be feeling so great doing this, but i really don't. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong or what. I'm eating right, exercising, gagging down water, taking supplements......I'm supposed to be feeling great......RIGHT????? Oh and by the way.....where did you find that recipe for the pizza thing? I have bee craving pizza like mad lately. I was really glad about the 3 pounds gone....I had been in a stall for the last 4 weeks, so that was a welcome change! Glad to hear about your daughter thinking about joining you....always nice to have a buddy!

hi charran and dianne welcome ...i cant remember where i got the recipe (which thread but i wrote it down and if i remember where ill let you know ok but heres the recipe ...shama told me about it maybe she remembers
deep dish quiche pizza
ingredients:
4 oz cream cheese...4carbs
4 eggs...4 carbs
1/3 cup heavy cream...0 carbs
1/4 cup parmesean cheese...1 carb
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1tsp pizza or italian seasoning...0
1/4 tsp garlic powder...
3 cups shredded mozarella cheese...4 carbs
pepperoni/mushrooms/sausage/omion /greenpepper ...i only used pepperoni and onions so carbs on this would depend on your toppings
directions:
beat together cream cheese and eggs til smooth
add cream,parmesean, and spices
spray 13x9 baking dish with oil
put 2 cups of shredded cheese in bottom of dish spread out
pour egg mixture over it
bake at 375 for approx 30 min i baked mine less
spread with sauce and add toppings bake til browning and bubbly
one other thing u can do is line bottom of pan with pepperoni before cheese and egg mixture it will give u more of a crust
i used fit day to measure my carbs and calories and by fit day mine was 6 servings 28 carbs for the whole pizza and 2322 cals so one serving is 5 carbs not oo bad and i was stuffed still am and i ate at 5:15 its 8:30 now
well char i hope u start feeling more energetic maybe for some it just takes more time i dont know what to tell u on that ...i have my days where i feel yuk but in general i feel pretty good
gerimac42
Tue, Mar-25-03, 19:27
the pizza sauce i used had 4 carbs for 1/4 cup so the serving is 1/2 cup so it was 8 for the total carbs in the pizza sauce

Come on out of the dumps Charran. I've had a few days that I've felt like crap too. I figured out that on those days it's because I've skipped a meal and have not had nearly enough carbs to keep my blood sugar up to an acceptable level.
Before LCing I would just grab a glass a juice but those days are over, now I run for a head of lettuce and make myself a quick salad and usually within a half hour or so I feel better.
As long as I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner, I feel fine but if I skip breakfast I'm lightheaded by lunch time. Make sure you're getting enough calories too. We're so use to thinking that the less calories and fat you consume, the quicker you'll lose weight, but that's not the case on this WOE.
You've got to consume at least 10X your weight in calories to keep your energy up. I've been slacking for the past couple of days on food, because I just haven't been hungry. This is the first diet "WOE" that I know of that you can't lose weight unless you eat.
Whenever you're feeling down, come join your cheerleaders, we're here for you.
:cheer: :hyper: :cheer: :hyper:
Hope you feel better tomorrow.

HI Everyone! Well i went to weigh in today and am down another pound! I'm trying some new things so that hopefully i re-gain some energy soon. One thing I'm trying is eating more carbs, especially before my work-out. So today I had my first piece of fruit in what seems like forever. I ate an apple. It was soooooo sweet, but I enjoyed every bite of it. I tested blood sugar and it had no adverse effect on that. So that's a good thing for me. Now we'll see how adding the extra carbs will be on my weight. The other thing I'm doing is trying to down more water. YUCK! The last thing I'll be doing is gettting more variety of foods. I realized that I'm eating the same things over and over and over. Not only is it getting boring, but I think that maybe I'm missing out on lots of different nutrients that other foods have to offer. Maybe this is what is bringing me down too. It's all an experiment, but I'll keep you all posted and let you know how its going! Thanks for all the support. Keep the smiles everybody and keep on losing! :)

I've been so busy this week but I did hit the forum and read a few posts each night. I broke down and weighed on Wednesday and hadn't lost an ounce, but I realized that I had been drinking coffee with caffene, hadn't had nearly enough water and hadn't been eating enough fats, carbs or protein.
I made it a point to eat right, drink lots of water and go back to decaf and today I'm down 2lbs. Yesterday I bought some of those Apple Cider Vinegar tablets and I'm going to see if they boost my metabolism any. I've read a few threads where people swear by them.
Geri, even in Induction when I dropped 12lbs in a week and a half my keto sticks were never purple always pink, so don't get too hung up on them. Yesterday I made taco salad,
The taco seasoning mix 4carbs per serving (add ground beef)
Sauce 2 carbs (1TBS)
lettuce
tomato
sour cream
shredded cheese
It was a welcome change from just meat and veggies. I got my fat
my carbs, protein, veggies all in one. It dawned on me today that I had been doing this WOE for 6 weeks and 21lbs is actually a lot to lose in such a short time. I'm going to stick with it and I want you guys to hang in there as well.
Hope to "read" about you soon.

Glad you're feeling good; that always helps when you're trying to change your WOE. I thought about how my weight loss went during these past 7 weeks, I'm going to list it so you'll have an idea of how easily it fluctuates and so that you won't get discouraged.
Feb 17th Started 212
Feb 23 210
Mar 2 200
Mar 9 193
Mar 16 195
Mar 23 195
Mar 30 190
It seems I lost and gained and held steady with no changes in my eating, no cheating or anything (didn't really drink the water) but for two weeks I just didn't lose any weight.
Everybody on this forum talks about how you may not loose for 2 weeks after the first initial big loss because your body has to re-adjust so I just kept that in mind and kept at it until it decided to start back this week.
I have to go to Michigan and work for 10 days, (April 7th through 17th) I'll be staying in a hotel and don't know how I'm going to manage eating out everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I'll be out in the field during the day so I know I can't drink my water because I'll have to run to the bathroom too much.
Oh, WOE is me (pun intended).
Have a great Sunday!

Hi Gang! I was away for the week-end so I'm now trying to catch up on posting. It was a hard week-end, but I managed to stay on track. My sister even made me a birthday cake, but I didn't have any. She of course grumbled about how wrong it is to have a birthday cake and not eat any of it. I just laughed and said, well...more for the rest of you then! I didn't get a chance to try that low carb cheesecake, but will be making it today! We are having another birthday celebration today, so that will be my treat.
Geri- Thank-you so very much for the birthday message! :) Glad to see that you're staying in control and i hope it pays off for you this week!
Shannon- WTG! :cheer: on the 3 pounds down! I had that smilie thing happening too for awhile. Now i can't get pictures to come up. All i get is a box with an x in it! GRRRRRR! I've been looking for help on that and can't find any though!
Pat- I'm sure you'll do fine eating out! Breakfast menus are filled with bacon, ham, sausage and egg dishes. There are lots of different salads to have to for lunches and dinners too. I started drinking apple cider vinegar, so we'll see if it helps any. Let us know how the pills are doing for you. And WTG :cheer: on the 21 pounds in six weeks. Thats excellent! I'm jealous.
Kids are on spring break this week, so don't know if i'll get to the gym or not. I'm going to try but its hard when they're around. I know, i know.....I'm just making excuses.

WOW Geri!!!! WTG!!!! :cheer: on the pounds down! Bet you're glad you stepped on that scale and congrats to your daughter too. She must be really excited. I'm not weighing in this week. I haven't been exercising, not drinking the water, and adding a few more carbs. I haven't really been tracking at all on Fitday either, but I know I'm not way out of bounds. Just added some fruit into my day. Next Monday will be my weigh-in and I'll see how it goes then. Hope everyone has a great week!

Hey Geri,
WTG on the 3lbs. :cheer: I'm so glad to hear about your daughter also. My son has yet to go through day 1
I finally went shopping and bought some jeans that fit. For the first time in god knows when I got a size 16Regular and I couldn't resist some of the cute matching bra's and undies that I had to pass on before now.
I'm feeling so motivated and talking to you guys makes my day. Even if I don't post, I'm still lurking around on the site reading something.
I'm going through all of my clothes now trying to figure out how and what to pack for a 10 day hotel stay. It would be easy if it were a vacation I could take play clothes but I'll be working and I'll need "day" clothes and "after work" clothes.
Talk to you soon and keep up the good work!

I'm going to miss you over the weekend Geri, when you return I'll be gone to Michigan. I loaded AOL dial up service on my laptop that I'm taking with me. I hope the hotel has internet access or at least local numbers that I can use to dial up. If not, I don't know what I'll do without you guys for 11 whole days.
I have never been away from my daughter for that long before, but she'll be with my mom. I'm trying to think of a graceful way to get out of having a drink with my team mates who of course are all guys. They've been joking all week about buying me drinks.
I may decide to drive home over the weekend even though I would have to drive back on Sunday. I haven't made up my mind yet, I guess it depends on how I'm feeling and how much I miss the comforts of home.
I hope I'll be able to report that I've lost tons of weight by the time I return. Even though I may not be able to access the forum, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers for continued success on your LC weight loss journey.
Missing you already

Hi!
I've been doing Atkins since 2/12/03 and have lost 22 lbs!!! I'm new to the forum - about a week or so. This place is great!
I still can hardly believe it's happening, but it is - this is the first thing that has worked. I've been doing all the high carb, low fat diets and exercising my ass off to no avail for the past 17 years. Of course, every time I gave up and/or cheated/binged - I gained weight so slowly but surely I got HUGE! Now I'm so mad at the government for their damn food pyramid! I wish we could sue! I was also recently diagnosed with type II diabetes as a direct result of all this weight so I'm doubly ticked!
Okay, I'm going to take a few deep breathes and think pleasant thoughts for a moment...ahhhh, Dr. Atkins is a saviour! I'm so grateful I didn't listen to my doctor and decided to give this a try. I've been reading so many posts lately, trying to learn as much as I can, but lately I've been wanting/needing friends that I could check in with....
Is there room?

Thank you, Char!
I looked at your profile and it looks like we're both winners! (or losers - depending on how you want to look at it!!)
I just started doing Fitday this week after hearing about it in this forum and man was I eating too many carbs! I was doing it in my head (lot's of room to get lost up there!) and basically was underestimating my carbs a great deal. Now that I'm doing Fitday I try to enter everything (hypothetically) in the program first thing in the morning so as not to get carried away during the day. I love Fitday! What a fantastic tool to help us stay on top of what we're doing and to keep track of everything so we can look for trends, etc...
I haven't really exercised at all yet....
When I doing the low fat/high carb scenario I used to exercise like a banshee. Now, I'm pooped! I guess I've been needing a break from the gym routine. I used to do incredible high cardio workouts and receive little if any results. It is so nice to see me losing weight without having to half-way kill myself! Being this overweight has led to a number of exercise induced accidents that have been even more detrimental to my overall health and quality of life. It's frustrating to be so motivated and then get injured and have to wait several days or so before you can exercise again. I'm taking it slow and doing some walking. Nothing intense, but movement nonetheless!
Can't wait to meet everyone else here!
Have a great low carb day!

LOL... but hey on the up side, ive been goin to the tanning bed ( my reward for losing the first 20 lbs) so i can be a bronzed beauty...
well now that ive checked in i must go do some paperwork, considering im at work .. lol.. ya'll have fun and HAVE A good LC day :)

Isnt it wonderful to know that you can eat till you are full, and not have to be hungry!! Lowfat dieting is the worst, it doesnt work for me anyway. I'm just like you, in that I love this WOE, and there is so much variety. Youll also find many great recipes on this site if you get bored with the same old thing.
I would start a journal, so we can help you if you need any. We can look there, and give you any suggestions to help and encourage and CONGRATULATE!!
Visit my journal anytime, were all in this together, and if it wasnt for everyone here, I know I couldnt do it on my own. So it is great to see you and look forward to hearing more from you!!
Bye for now, have a great night

Well, things were back to normal today and I even made it to the gym! Yipee!!!! I am so sore though right now, I can hardly type. It's amazing how fast your body goes down from not doing anything for a whole week. I've decided to get in more cardio work-outs in hopes of stimulating that metabolism. Maybe thats my problem. I go to the gym 3 times a week, but i only do 20 minutes of cardio to warm up and then do weight training for about an hour. So i've decided to get in some cardio on the alternate days and see what happens. Wish me luck! :)

Luddybell and Shannon - Thank you for the warm welcome! :yay:
I just love Fitday and have made it "public", but I don't know how to add that link I see on the bottom of everone's post. Any ideas?
I saw a post somewhere on this forum (can't remember, I've been reading so much!) that had a subject heading
CAN'T WAIT TO BE HOT AGAIN!
That's exactly how I feel. When I was "hot", of course I thought I was too chunky, or too short, or my hair was too flat, etc...
Now, when I look at those old pictures of myself and look into my eyes I wonder why I didn't see in the mirror the image that stares back at me. I was hot. No, I want to amend that -
I was HOT! And not only do I want that back, but this time I'm going to celebrate my body instead of feeling bad about it or apologize for it. Hhhmmm - I guess someone could make the suggestion that I (or everyone for that matter) do that regardless. But in this society it is difficult being overweight. It is truly one of the last socially acceptable negative stigma, stereotype, and source of prejudice and/or ridicule - not to mention poor for my overall health. So while I try not to hate myself, I do long for the day that I'll be proud of my shape - not attempting to hide it under baggy clothes. I also have to admit that I wear black pants every day. EVERY DAY! Sick, huh! It's like I'm in mourning for my old body or like I've nuetered myself. I certainly don't feel hot at this size, however with my recent weight loss there is a noticeably warm current creeping in!
Recently I bought some jeans (size 18) because for a change the pockets weren't as large as my face!!! But I can't bring myself to wear them yet. They're not black!
Anyways, bottom line - I used to be neurotic, insecure, and uncomfortable in my size 5 jeans and oh, yeah, embarrassed of my muscle tone! (I was athletically built then and hated what I thought was a too masculine look - I was nuts!)
I 'm still nuts, I'm still neurotic, but I want to really cherish my body and decorate it with colorful clothes! I have a dream!
Do you guys feel hot regardless of your weight? Or are you like me - working on getting your groove back?
Kris

Hi Kris,
Yeah, my groove got up and left me, I'm still trying to find it!!! I have been overweight since my first daughter was born. I have 4 children, and with each one, I put on about 10 to 15 lbs, with the nursing cuz I was so hungry. Sure I lost all the baby fat pretty much within the first 6 weeks,(except with my first, then I gained around 50 lbs and only lost 25 of it.)Thats how all my weight came on, plus late night eating, which I''ve done a long time.
Yes, I dont feel that HOT anymore, and I'm looking to get back there. I'm still young and I deserve to feel that way again.
Keep posting and start a journal, it will help you stay on track, it does me. And everyone here is wonderful, the support is awesome, I need all that I can get, thats why I'm here. To give and receive. So glad you are here too. We'll all help you too!
Take care,

I can totally relate to the black pants thing too. Black sweat pants, black leggings, black dress pants, black exercise pants, black causual pants......oh and for a really wild change.....navy blue!!!! Hey.....where is everyone? I'm here with good news to share. I stepped on the scale today at the gym and I was down 6 pounds. After more than 4 weeks of nothing, 6 pounds gone today. Congratulations Char!!!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:
Keep up the good work!
And rewarding yourself with new exercise pants? Way to go! For me, rewarding myself always involved food somehow. It's so nice to see progress - mentally as well as physically.
It's so hard to stay motivated during the sloooww periods, but when it does come off it's like FINALLY! YEAH!!!!!!
Why does our body do that? It's so crazy! People have all these theories:
retaining water, something we've eaten has stalled us, our metabolism adjusts, muscle weighs more than fat, etc...
I'm like - well, according to Fitday, I should be down a pound this week. Why isn't it registering on the scale? Frustrating to say the least. I don't know how people free themselves from the scale monster. He whispers my name every morning....I can't escape! Now here's a mental attitude that needs work!
I think as we continue to sculpt our bodies - we'll all find that groove!

Hey Gang,
Boy have I missed you guys. The hotel offered it's own internet access for $10.99 per day and I couldn't use my AOL dialup.
CONGRATS on all of the weight losses. I'm excited for everyone. I
must say that I've cheated during the past week. Didn't have any sweets or anything but I did have potatoes with my steak and a roll here and there with my salad. Oh, and let me not leave off the vodka and cranberry juice every evening with the guys after work.
I weighed this morning and was sooooo happy to see that I didn't gain at all, it's that TOM, I haven't been able to drink my water this week so to not have gained was a good as loosing for me. With the work I'm doing in Michigan, I probably walk about 5 miles each day, so that helped a lot.
I've got to leave back out tomorrow and stay for one more week but the weather's nice and I'll stay on track next week. I'm happy to see that some great new folks decided to join our buddy group, I say the more the merrier.

Hey Buds,
I'm up, packed, dressed and ready to head back out. Hope you feel better soon LB. Don't be too hard on yourself Geri, if this were easy this would be the diet/WOE for everyone. One little chili dog won't hurt you.
Since I've been home, I've lost my appetite again. I know I need to eat but every thing tastes so BLAHH. I tried a salad last night and couldn't eat it. I might have to up my supplements to make up for the vitamins and minerals I'm missing. I can't even force myself to drink water. The only thing that seems to taste good is coffee.
Maybe I'll switch to fish for the protein. I'm about beefed and porked out. We've got to come up with some ideas, from reading the other posts and the book it seems the thing that makes everybody lose interest is that they get bored with the food and I think that's where I'm at now.
Rather than eat the wrong things I sort of just don't eat at all and we know that's not good. Let's work on trying some new recipes and share the good ones so we'll all stay as motivated as we were a month or so ago.
Holla at ya soon

I'm a newcomer and I've been lurking....
I do have a question that I posted as a new thread somewhere else but no one seems to want to answer me
Are any of you eating those low carb bars that say they have 2 or 3 impact carbs. So you only count the impact carbs as the total amount of carbs eaten, right? I've just recently added these since I was finding that I couldn't get my act together for lunch on my class days (I'm a 35 year old returning student - going for my bachelors degree). So on Mon, Wed, and Fri. - my classes are back to back 10 am - 4 pm and I needed something convenient that I could sneakily eat during class. I was eating salami and cheese stacked on top of one another, but I got some really weird looks from both the teacher and the students!!!!!
I'm looking forward to getting know all of you!

Hi Kris...wish i could help you on that question...i don't eat the bars myself...I tried one once and it was really good i found...didn't have any effect on me at all....but i don't eat them for the sheer cost....they are almost 5 dollars a bar here, and that's a little too rich for my blood....from what i understand you are correct in counting just the 2 grams of net carbs per bar, as thats all the carbs that are supposed to have an effect on you.
Misty....glad to hear you're feeling better........WHOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bikini season on the way!
As for me, I'm off to the doctor tomorrow to see if i can find what's happening with this body of mine. Hopefully will find some answers. Oh and it's weigh in day at the gym. Not feeling too hopeful about any weight loss this week. Feel huge today for some reason!

Hi!
I know that ever since I started this new WOL I've been shopping a little bit more lately....
maybe it's because I'm rewarding myself for being so good!?!?
If I didn't shop - I'd probably be saving a lot of money because we (me and my husband) used to eat out a lot. Probably about two or three times a week. Now I'm buying CDs and trying on smaller clothes (!!!!!!!), but I'm not buying these clothes since I've got a ton of stuff that's in smaller sizes. However, when I'm in Walmart and spot a $5 or $10 shirt - I can't resist!
My big find this weekend - I drove an hour and a half to the nearest Trader Joe's to buy La Tortilla Factory low carb tortillas (60 calories/12gcarb, but 9g fiber - so that's 3g net carbs!). I read about them here on the forum and had to check them out. Well, we had them for dinner last night and YUM! I'm never going back...I can do this for the rest of my life with products like this. My husband and I were going nuts imagining all the things we can put on a tortilla! We haven't had any "bread" for two months so this was a real treat!
And then this morning I found that the whoosh fairy had visited me in the night and WHAM! 2 lbs gone!
Hope everyone has a good low carb day!

Oh, I forgot -
Hi Charron!
Thanks for your help. I'm thinking I'll give them a whirl for about a week or two and see if they stall me or anything. If they work out - that would be just wonderful. They don't really bother my blood sugar either so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Hope things go well for you at the doctors today

Hi Geri! Good morning, Everyone!
I'm glad to hear that you're not gonna let that slip get you down. You've got the right attitude - just get back up on that horse/wagon whatever!
I've only tried a couple of different low carb bars so far and I'd be happy to rate them for you!
My #1 Favorite is: Think Thin! Low Carb Diet bar/diabetics choice Brownie Crunch Lite with only 2 effective carbs (pretty good texture and flavor!) and 20 g/protein - I found these at Trader Joe's and they are a little pricey (I think they were $1.69), but they're totally worth it since they're practically a stand alone meal and they are very convenient which I need for school. I'll also eat these as a much needed snack when I'm starting to feel a craving coming on.
#2 Carb Solutions High Protein bar Taste Sensations! Chocolate Cappuccino Crisp with 3 effective carbs and 25 g/protein (or Mint Chocolate Chip flavor with 2 effective carbs - which strangely reminds me of stale Girl Scout mint cookies!) . I got these at Walmart and I can't remember how much these were. The texture is a little chewy/weird, but they work for me. I'm going to keep these in my car for hunger emergencies!
#3 EAS Myoplex Carb Sense Lemon Cheesecake Nutrition Bar with 3 effective carbs and 30 g/protein. This is only in third place because it isn't chocolate! But for a chance of pace it is nice to have a milder, lemon flavored bar. Again, I found these at Walmart and at the Navy Exchange (for military personnel and their families).
I admit you have to be a little open minded to get used to eating these things, but they are a nice departure from meat and cheese and you can't beat the convenience factor!
I was trying to do the Zone diet a couple of years ago and had to abandon it because it was just too much work trying to figure out the ratio for every freakin' meal! Atkins works beautifully for me and I'm so worried about his health right now. He's my hero! I've been doing this WOL for just over two months now and I couldn't be happier. I feel so good! I've been doing a lot of experimenting lately to see what works and what doesn't work for me. Kinda pushing the envelope a little...
I don't know what I would do without this forum. I learn so much here!
If anyone has an interesting recipe or snack that's working for them - please share it with the group! I'd love to hear what your favorites are.

Hi Everyone! I'm in absolute LOVE!!!!! I went to the health food store with my Mom today, and I was looking at all those low carb bars and things and noticed these Ross chocolate bars, with only 1,2 or 3 carbs per bar. I've tried some diabetic chocolates before and frankly they all tasted, well....less than desirable, lets just say! So anyways, the lady there is telling me how great they were and we chatting about it and she takes one off the shelf, opens it and says, here try it out, you'll see....they're great! BOY was she RIGHT! :) They were delicious. I tried the mint chocolate one....YUMMY! I bought 4 different kinds. Now if I can just control myself and have a little bit of one now and again. They were abit pricey at 1.84 a bar, but worth it I think for a treat once in awhile!

Sometime I get tired of eating salads - so I'll put my hot meal on top of it and incorporate it into my bites. For instance, I try to eat salmon at least once a week. I'll cook it up in a frying pan and a little olive oil. When it's done I pour everything over a mix of lettuces (usually a bagged spring mix) and viola! And the presentation is gorgeous. Some things I find indispensable:
pesto
garlic
sun dried tomatoes
marinated mozzarella balls
parmesan cheese
olives
mushrooms
green, yellow, orange, and red peppers
frozen spinach
frozen Italian style green beans (found only at Safeway for some reason)
half-half
curry
pine nuts (sometimes and sparingly)
Depending upon my mood and what kind of meat I'm cooking up determines what ingredients go where. But these are my staples and any combination of these ingredients (and I experiment!) always yields not only an interesting flavor, but a gorgeous plate! It feels like a gourmet meal and it takes minutes. I also use my microwave for practically everything.
For example:
I'll take either the frozen spinach or frozen Italian style green beans (both excellent sources of fiber!)
add Italian seasoning, mushrooms, peppers, sun dried tomatoes, (maybe, pine nuts, too) and fry this all up and finally melt some parmesan cheese on top. Yum!
Hope everyone has a great day!

GM E1...Well everything checked out OK at the doctor, so I guess I'll just keep experimenting and see what may help. Posted a few things that I'm doing in my journal. Misty, I saw you in the chatroom the other day. I tried to get in, but couldn't. I think it would be so cool for us all to get in there and have a "real" chat. Did you just click on the icon and get in? Also does anyone know anything about private messaging? Can you only send one if someone is on-line or what? Hope you all pop in before Easter Sunday to offer some motivation on staying away from chocolate bunnies. There are some in the closet right now, yelling my name! I waited until this week to go and buy Easter candy, because of the experience last year ( ate most of it myself before Easter actually came and had to go back for more, same experience with Halloween by the way) So far, so good though, but those bunnies are in danger of being "earless" by Sunday! :daze:

Sorry I haven't been around in a few days - crazy schedule lately!
I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!
I'm home alone doing homework today. My professor just e-mailed us an incredibly enormous assignment. My husband flew back east to see his mom who just had triple bypass surgery! She's also a type II diabetic and she's been eating low fat/high carb for the past twenty years since she was diagnosed and of course I'm convinced that is what led to her diabetes decline and accelerated any predispositions she had for heart disease.
I'm still pretty upset that Dr. Atkins has passed away. He truly is/was my hero, and I was hoping to meet him someday. I had this vision of losing all my weight and going to his office and thanking him personally.
I'm not being tormented by any chocolate bunnies hanging around, but I did feel sorry for myself last night that hubby was gone and I was all alone...to make a long story short - I ate 1 1/2 cups of sugar free instant pudding mix made with half and half. I was still within my calories, fat, protein for the day, but my carbs were through the roof and my blood suger was elevate this morning. :nono:
I guess I can't do that again - or at least not eat THAT much!
Too much of a good thing does end up biting you in the butt (or take up residence there!).
I was surprised to see I had lost another pound this morning! Made me wonder if the whoosh fairy stopped by to give me a big gift, read my Fitday, and decided to give me a mercy 1 lb. loss instead!
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Hey Gang,
I'm back! Hope everyone had a Happy Easter. Missed you guys!
Okay, now that I'm back it's time for us to get back on track. I'm setting our first mini goal; be good until Mother's Day.
If we be good, we can eat and drink whatever we want for that one day and not feel guilty. I passed on the Easter candy, but I enjoyed dinner at my Mom's. I didn't eat anything for Breakfast or Lunch but for dinner I did treat myself to a couple of spoons of Potatoe Salad and Macaroni and Cheese. It was so good and I didn't feel guilty one bit.
I stayed on track last week with the food but I still indulged in my nightly Vodka with the guys; when I got home I had somehow managed to loose 2 lbs. I'm now at 188.
I'll be at home for two weeks and then it's off to Ohio for two weeks of work. I guess my fat cells are still shrinking because eventhough I don't have the pounds falling off my 16s are getting loose now.
I'm still feeling good about this WOE and I'm in no hurry to loose the weight as long as I eventually loose it. I'll be on the forum every day that I'm home to send notes to you guys.
Everybody take care and hope to "read" from you soon.

I've been away for a while, just using fitday to track my food and weight. I finally have something to report - I guess I was a little of track! But I was also in a plateau, and I knew that I just had to keep my head down and keep on working at it! And it worked. I have lost 4 lbs since my last visit, and even if it was a couple of weeks ago, that was the over the easter chocolate season, and I cam through unscathed.
Actually, this is where things usually fall apart for me - people are starting to notice and that is always what scares me off. I need to keep focused on the great way I feel, and ignore what other people say. If only I could be one of those people who could take those compliments and use them for good isntead of evil!
Meanwhile, I know that this diet works, and I will be on it for the rest of my life.

Thu, Apr-24-03, 10:06
Good morning!
Slowly but surely we're going to make it! Today is one more step closer to our goal!
As far as planning a cheat day, I just can't bring myself to cheat. The little "cheats" I do are low-carb choices that I eat too much off - I try to keep my carbs ~20g/day, but usually end up ~20-30g/day. I really feel like THIS IS IT and I don't want to take any chances, have a cheat day, and spin out of control. I've been doing that for years. Although yesterday I had a really bad day and all I could think about was cake and ice cream. It was a bad day. I almost gave it when I saw a picture of a beautiful cake on the side of a bus when I was driving home - I almost turned into the grocery store with a "screw it! I'll just cheat this once" attitude, but then I thought about how this cheat will be over in a matter of minutes, my bad day would be over in a matter of hours, but my Buddha belly has been with me for years and has made me miserable countless minutes and days. That made me grouchy (as you can imagine!) but it also killed my desire to eat that crap.
All over the board I've read posts of people cheating on Easter and bouncing right back into gear afterwards. I'm too afraid to try.
Dfletcher - This is what happens to me when I get a compliment - I think - well, I'm doing pretty good - I deserve to eat this...or not exercise today! Strange logic I know! Receive positive reinforcement for changes that are a direct result of new WOL = diverting from what works! Insane!
Have a great day!

Okay, so I've lost 26 lbs in about 10 weeks of low-carbing - and I haven't exercised. Not like the exercise I used to do when I was low fat/high carbing. I used to be a maniac on the elliptical machine and the treadmill - I'd sometimes even run a little, but not this time. On day one of this new WOL I went for a walk and hurt my ankle and it still hasn't quite healed. So it has been my excuse (althought it really does still hurt!). But I have to move just to be healthy regardless of how much I weigh so I decided to try water aerobics yesterday. It was awesome! Although I was the youngest person there!!! That was even amazingly motivating to work out with all of those silver haired dynamos! There was also a pregnant woman in the class. I was so impressed. So I'm going to try and do this 2-3 times a week. I was so tired afterwards so I know it was a pretty good workout and this morning I felt a tiny, tiny bit sore. The best part is that the water is great for resistance all over your body, yet you don't have the high impact on your joints which is something I guess I should be careful of at this weight (example: my ankle!). Getting into a bathing suit was pretty nerve racking but I did it and I'm so proud of myself.
Geri- Congratulations on not cheating yesterday!! Pasta is my personal downfall as well. I miss it soooo much. But someday - I will eat pasta again and then I'll low-carb the rest of the time to make up for what I hope will be monthly "days off". I can't tell myself that I'll never eat those things ever again - too depressing!
Everyone have a great low carb day! Spring is coming!!!

Hi everyone. I have just found this challenges page. I would love a buddy. I am interested in doing a 8 week challenge with a weigh in every Monday and a check in post. I find that doing this keeps me motivated. No unrealistic goals. My goal would be to lose 8 lbs or a dress size. Drink 8 glasses of water a day. Work out 3 times aweek and not eat anymore than 50 carbs per day tops.
Anyone up for the challenge with me? I would like to post my weight and start the challenge this coming Monday. April 28th. I have aol and if you would like to talk with me for support and visa versa I would be delighted.

I would love a challenge-
My goals:
1. Drink 96 oz. of water a day
2. Exercise 3x/week
3. Lose 2 lbs. a week
(since I have a lot more weight to lose!)
So I guess we'll "officially" weigh in on Monday and post it here!
Sounds great since I need to increase my water and begin exercising and I like the idea of being accountable and doing it together!

Hi E1! Well I think I'm ready for a little challenge here and see how my new changes are going to do.
1. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day.
2. Go to gym 3 times a week.
I'm playing around with the amount of carbs I eat, so I really don't know what will happen weight wise. I cut down my work-outs at the gym and am going to add in more cardio to try to jump start that metabolism abit. Someone thought that perhaps I wasn't eating enough carbs for the work-outs that I'm doing and it could be sapping my energy too. So I'm going to play around with things abit here and experiment. Obviously what I'm doing isn't helping any, so it's time to seriously look at some changes. I have the added challenge of being diabetic too, so that can be a problem with the carbs also. I want to keep my good blood sugar results, so I'll be doing lots of testing along with playing around abit. I'll be going to the gym tomorrow and will weigh in on the scale there and then post my weight for the 28th.

So it looks like we're all on board for tomorrow!
I'm so glad - I really need some support and discipline - I've got to start moving this body around even if it does feel cumbersome. :wiggle:
Lately I've been in a little funk because I'm so excited about reaching my first goal of 199 that every morning I hop on the scale in anticipation....
I really shouldn't complain, I've been losing weight slowly, but steadily, it's just that sometimes I get so impatient.
We finally had some nice weather today and so I approached my shorts drawer...and viola! I was able to fit into a few things I haven't worn in years!!!!!!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm still a chunky monkey, but progress nonetheless.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend-

Monday's weight according to the gym scale is 218.04. Got all my water in today and was totally on track. YAY!!! So now I do have to tell you all that with my week of totally being off track and I mean totally, I have managed to lose almost a pound. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! What's with that? 5 weeks of being soooo good and nothing, and then I get off track and lose a pound????? Well of course, I should qualify that and say that it was one pound lost of the 4.8 I gained after the first carb blow-out week-end. Gym went really good today. Did my decreased work-out and felt much better. Hope e1 else is doing good too.

Hi e1,
I thought that I would do the challenge too. I'm not sure about keeping real good track of the carbs I eat, I think that fitday, is kind of a hassle, I know I'm lazy, smack smack!!
Today, I weighed in at 198. and I did 30 min of aerobics.
The water I got 48 oz of regular water, and 32oz of flavored water SF that is and no carbs, you can get it at Walmart, its really good.
Good luck to everyone, type at you all tomorrow!!

HELLO!?!?!?!?!
Hey, Char!
Congrats on your weight loss! And also congratulations on your exercise! That is particularly awesome. Well, I've been super good about my water. But...
I haven't exercised yet!
Wow. That was hard to admit. I used to love to exercise! I really have to get over this feeling of being so blobby and uncoordinated that it is almost a downer to exercise because it reminds me how out of shape I really am. What a head case! Okay, okay, I'm gonna go. Today. I still have four days to squeeze it in before next Monday!
On Monday, I did mow the lawn and weed my garden. Does that count? Please say that it does because I was pretty pooped afterwards and my legs were even a little sore the next day.
I'll be good and post here again tomorrow. Until then - have a great low carb day!

Hope things work out with Mark and the child support troubles, I'll keep everyone in my prayers. I don't think the judge could be that heartless as to jail him if he's out of work and has no means to pay. My ex has been out of work for the past 6 months and I haven't even given a thought to taking him to court, maybe Mark can try and reason with the ex.
How's everyone been doing with the challenge? I must admit that I have been bad, bad, bad over the past week. I walked up to the scale this morning dreading the results but to my surprise I had lost 4 lbs. I'm not sure what's going on with my body anymore. I'm down to 184 and happy, happy happy!
Maybe the extra carbs broke the stall. I had a piece of pecan pie on Wed. a piece of cheesecake on Thursday and oh, I forgot to mention the two Big-Macs (they were two for $2.00, I couldn't pass up a bargain :D ) and fries on Tuesday. After I had cheated so badly I had given up on the week and ate whatever I wanted but ended up loosing more this week than I have in the past month.

hey everyone ..glad to see u back pat ...i think sometimes eating the carbs helps u kick back in and makes u start losing again i gave myself a planned free day yesterday ..but i didnt go too over board i had grits for breakfast and i had a stuffed green pepper for dinner it had rice in it i also had some fruit salad but i didnt gain so i was glad to see that ....misty im sure every thing will work out ok ...i have an ex who tries everything to get out of child support and i have worked with him as much as i could but its getting old now ...i guess i dont really push the issue cuz i do ok on my own but i just wish he was a better father ..hes been calling alot lately but he always does when hes feeling sorry for himself ..he'll go back to his old ways soon ..lol...everyone has a run of bad luck from time to time but when u have an ex like mine who just doesnt seem to think he should have to pay then thats when u should take them to court even though i dont but im just tired of his excuses ....anyway congrats pat on your loss ill be soooooooooo happy to see the 180's that i havent seen in so long ...but one thing i do know is that i will reach my goal this time this woe is becoming easier and seems kinda normal to me now ..i played with 5 lbs for about 2 weeks and finally broke that cycle and lost another 4 i was getting a little discouraged but i know its gonna happen sometimes ..
today is my day off so im going to finish some things around here and cut some grass you guys have a great day !!!

Gm Everyone and congrats to everyone who is sticking to plan and losing weight! :cheer: This is however, NOT me. I should be posting in confessions or something I think. But today is a new day. I had a couple of really good days last week, and then something happened. What you ask? I have no idea. It started with a slice of pizza and ended up with indiscriminate eating of chocolate and doughnuts and chips. I'm scared to step on the scale at the gym today, but I will. Long challenges are obviously not working for me, so just for today I will....go to the gym.....eat 30 grams of carbs or under.....drink 64 oz of water.....and think positive thoughts. I think I need to do this for a few days to get myself back on track.
Misty...hope everything works out for you and I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
Pat...great to see you back! I'm not even going to comment on the bad bad bad thing ( been there, done that, gettting back on track)! LOL
Lady...welcome to the thread and you'll find lots of support here.
Geri...enjoy your day off! Congrats on breaking that cycle and I'm sure those 180's are coming for both you and I.
Kris...I think that any activity you do counts as exercise. Doing anything is better than sitting on your butt in front of the TV. So , do I count mopping the floor as exercise? You bet I do!
Shannon...great to see you posting again and on track.

There must be something in the air!?!?!?!
I also cheated for the first time in almost 3 months. Pizza. A lot of pizza. So much pizza I had a stomachache for HOURS. I totally don't miss that horrible, bloated feeling. What is hilarious is just a week or two ago I was like "No way am I going to cheat!"
and then I fell off the wagon big time.
But I feel recommitted and I'm definintely over my pizza craving for a while!
The amazing thing is - I didn't gain any weight. Miraculous!
You guys who indulged and LOST weight amaze me!
Congratulations! :cheer:
I've been really good about my water and I exercised twice last week.
So this week - 1. Don't Cheat 2. Exercise 3X 3. 96 oz. water
Welcome, LV - the more the merrier!

UGH!!! Stepped on the gym scale yesterday and I'm up another 4 pounds this week. So now that's a total of 8.8 pounds up in two weeks. I'm so mad at myself. It took me forever to lose that amount and in 2 weeks, I've managed to put it all back on. But I was back on track yesterday and have set out my goals for today to stay on track, so hopefully, they will go away soon.
Kris...good thing you got back on track fast. Believe me..it isn't worth it in the long run. Those few minutes of pleasure aren't worth this pain now and great that you didnt' gain anything. I think thats the thing with these "little" cheats. If you get right back on track, you probably don't do much damage. It's when it over takes you, like it did for me and you keep going on and on without getting back on track. Major damage, let me tell you! :(

Tue, May-06-03, 16:45
Thanks everyone for sharing and welcoming me in to the group! Oh, and I already "cheated" once. It had been a LONG time since I had a beer, so I went out a few hours and enjoyed several! My thought is, if I am going to "cheat", make it worth it! However, it definitely set me back!
I had my second child a few months ago and gained a ton of weight. I went from being at the gym 3 times a week and being cognitive about the food I ate to being sedentary and eating as if it was my last meal! Some of the weight came right off, yet the majority decided it was liking me! Ugh! So, three weeks after baby, I decided to begin eat to lose, and eventually win. I haven't been back to the gym because they won't watch the baby until he is 6 months old. I do have a friend, however, that walks with me an hour at least 3 times a week.

Hi everyone!
I love spring! I wish it would last forever...
I've been puttering around my yard and my legs ache from all the squatting! I'm so out of shape it's pathetic!
I've been doing a little yoga at night and I can't even tell you how awkward I am! I've even resorted to doing some of the modified positions for pregnant women (since I'm a classic "apple"!)
:wiggle:
And I'm like, "whoa, whoa, whoa!!!!!!!!" and then I topple over! How embarrassing.
At least I've only got the dogs to document how goofy I am! Someday I imagine myself being all lithe and graceful, but that's not going to be for a while.
Exercise is the key, though. Anything is better than nothing and as we lose weight we gotta keep in mind that we gotta work on firming up. Everyone talks about the benefit of lost inches - even whent the scale doesn't budge - so I'm going to....
MEASURE MYSELF!?!?!?
Scary, I know, but it must be done for the sake of recording (hopefully soon) results.
Once I can find a tape measure, I'll post the results here!
Anyone want to join me? It's another way to mark our progress 1

Okay, measuring the body ranks up there with those annual paps and getting a hair cut. I avoid them all as long as possible, and always feel better after it is done. Hey, exercise can fit in there sometimes, too! So, I did the measuring thing and hid that paper. Now, I will be happy as long as noone else sees that thing for a while (since my girth is only noticable if you read the numbers! yeah right!).
Can anyone please help me with the site to find out how many carbs are in my day of eating? Thanks!
Charran
Wed, May-07-03, 20:47
I measured myself the day I started low-carbing. I wrote it down and put the paper away deep deep in a drawer. I look at it every now and then, but it's still frightful. I have no shape...lol....I look like a box, just almost straight all the way down. And this is so bad, but I have to put underwear on to find where my waist should be. I honestly can't tell without them. The first thing I'm going to do when I lose lots of weight is buy something other than those big "granny panties"
Lady...What kind of help do you need? The site is Fitday.com Just go there and create an account for yourself. I found it pretty easy to use, but abit time consuming sometimes. It sure can be an eye-opener though and a very useful tool.
Kris...I just wish spring would get here. I'm so eager to get out into my garden, but it's still buried under about 4 inches of snow.
And now for the BIG news. I stepped on the gym scale today (yes, i know it's not Monday, but I was feeling thinner) and low and behold.....ready for this....DOWN 5 pounds. I think my carb blowout was mainly water retention. But regardless, I'm just glad its all gone, plus an extra pound.

Thu, May-08-03, 08:23
Wow, Char! That's great! What a relief, too! :hyper:
Let's keep it up! We're in this thing together for the long haul!
I was thinking about our cheats and I wonder if it has something to do with seeing some results (like we all have) and then "rewarding" ourselves. The crazy thing is we rewarded ourselves with carbs - thy enemy! :nono: For me - the guilt was incredible.
I'm feeling back on track again and I'm down a pound! I've been in a stall for several weeks so that little pound feels monumental!
There's no way I'm only going to weigh myself on Mondays! I don't get on the scale every morning, but somehow I can tell when there's been a change and I think it's important to check/confirm it. Good for morale!
LV - I can understand the annual paps, but haircuts!?!? What do they do to you? Put soap in your eyes? You had me laughing so hard!
Okay, chickens, I mean girls!, - I'm going to post my inches - just as soon as I find my tape measure. I've looked everywhere. I'll buy one if I have to because I do think monitoring the inches could prove interesting. I'd love to know what I've lost already.
Hope everyone has a great low carb day!

Good morning!
I still haven't found my tape measure and have been too busy to post - never mind run out and buy a tape measure! I've been pretty overwhelmed at school and when I finally get done either reading my books or writing on the computer - all I want to do is veg out. My brain feels soft! I'm going numb! And to top it all off - it's spring! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
Plus, I think because this quarter has been so challenging for me I've been struggling with carb creep. Ever since mid-April I have been dead in the water as far as weight loss. It's frustrating because it proves to me how carb resistant I really am. Apparently small things can stall me big time. The only thing that really keeps me motivated lately is that my blood sugar numbers have been good so that makes me happy. I'm also super good about my water, but my exercise is still lagging (or maybe I should say my butt is lagging behind! ha!)
I've got to run - tons of homework to do today - hope everyone has a great low carb day!

Hey Everbody,
I'm back in town to stay for at least the next 6 to 8 weeks. I was in Toledo OH, the week of May 5th and Dayton OH the week of May 12th. I made it in last night around 6 and went right to sleep. Dayton was a 5 hour drive to get back to Chicago.
I worked in my yard for about 5 hours today, cutting grass, edging, seeding etc. boy do my legs ache. I cheated here and there during the last two weeks and I've got 2 lbs gained to show for it.
I got up first thing this morning, went to the store and bought only good stuff, veggies, meat, eggs and cheese and some strawberries for dessert. I have no problem sticking to the WOE when I'm home, but when I get with the guys at work I seem to give in and eat whatever they eat.
Congrats to all on the weight losses and welcome to Lady in LV, we're a fun group and love to have new buddies. I'm glad to hear that for all of us who have fallen off and given in to temptation, we recognize that we have to get back on track.
With some of the goodies that I've had in the past couple of weeks I probably would have gained more but I walked at least two miles each day ( not that I was trying to, I was working )
Talk to everyone soon. I missed you guys!

Luddybell,
What's with the getting back on track on Monday. Today is Saturday, if you start today you'll be back in Ketosis by Monday and over the yucky Induction feeling.
I started back today, I just got in town last night so I had a lot of running around to do; I missed breakfast and lunch but I just had dinner:
Hamburger pattie with cheddar cheese
Salad/Ranch dressing
Glass of water.
"Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today"
Well it sounded good when I said it to myself this morning LOL

What do you guys do for work again? I'm sure that information is somewhere in the old posts, but I'm too busy to go sluething around!
It sounds like some of you have pretty hectic lives - not to mention interesting jobs!
I have three more weeks until this quarter is over and I can begin my summer break!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I plan on exercising my ass off (but actually I'm hoping to melt off a little of the Buddha belly!) by going EVERY day to the gym (this is my plan anyways!) - as well as write. Since I'll be at home and working on the computer, I'm sure I'll be checking in here a lot more often. I'm hoping the nice weather will kick me into high gear and motivate me to be more active in general. I seem to always have an excuse not to go exercising despite my "pledge" on here a couple of weeks ago.

Luddybell,
I can certainly understand not having the stuff around the house to eat that you need. My cupboards were bare when i came home; I left my 19 year old son here; I didn't even have toilet paper or a slice of bread (not that I needed the bread)
Bellybgone,
I work for SBC (local telephone company in the Midwest) I am a Quality Reviewer for the 5 state region (Ohio, Indiana, Illinois,Michigan and Wisconsin) I pull the work prints that the construction folks use to place telephone cable on the poles, manholes and buried trenches in subdivisions and go out and inspect the work.
I have to look at every little detail such as if they placed gravel in the terminals buried in the ground, if they connected the telephone strands together on poles that also have power, if they put a sticker that says "Call before you dig" on cables that leave the air and go underground. I give them a final score and their raises and bonuses are tied in to their Quality scores.
A lot of the jobs are for whole areas that are 7 or 8 blocks long and I end up walking in and out of every back yard and opening every terminal; so I get my exercise and work all in one. It rained all of the first week and I came back to the hotel wet and muddy everyday. I used to work construction and go in the manholes and work on the telephone poles and install and repair telephone lines, so the guys respect my ability to grade them on their quality. Of course, I'm the only woman on the Quality team.
It's a fun job but I have to drive the whole region and that gets tiring and I hate being away from my daughter who is 6 but she stays with my Mom and I call her every morning and every night and I drive home on the weekends at least for 1 day and go back.

All of our Buddies,
I come back in town, get back on the forum and you guys go missing in action. Okay, I know this is my punishment for being gone so long, but I'm back :D .
How's everyone doing? I'm back on track since Saturday, I couldn't help myself so I weighed yesterday. I've lost the two pounds I gained plus two. I had read on the forum somewhere that when you get this metal, steely taste in you mouth you are going to have a woosh.
I had that taste all day Monday and nothing would make it go away, kind of like that taste when you touched a battery to your tongue when you were a kid. Anyway I'm back in ketosis, back on track and ready to get the rest of this weight off.
I went back to induction levels on the carbs, but I didn't give up my coffee and I'm back to taking the Vinegar tablets after my last meal of the day and maybe that's what's helping.
Hope to hear/read from you guys soon.

Hi everyone! I'm back from the camping trip and have now sorted through most of the clutter and laundry, so I have time to get back on here and catch up. I'm trying out a new plan, Protein Power, to see if i can get that scale moving again and also get back some of that lost energy. I haven't been exactly right on track while I've been investigating new plans, but on the other hand, I haven't gotten totally out of control like I did last time. I did introduce more carbs, mainly fruit, because I found that I really did miss it and it doesn't seem to do too much to my blood sugar if eaten in small amounts along with a meal or as a snack. It's a new experiment, and one I hope really works for me. The only thing I find difficult is gagging all that protein down at one time. I'm going to have to find out if it can be spread out over the day. Pat...WTG :cheer: on those pounds down. Shannon...good luck on the re-induction. Sometimes that's what we need to get back on track. Misty..I think the time to post more is when we're off track. Helps to get back on! Kris and Geri....How's the exercising going? I'm in an exercise slump. I'm one of those people who have never gotten that "exercise high" and felt sooooo good afterwards. I basically do it because I think I should, not because I love doing it. I'm not sure how to change that mind set. They say to find something you enjoy doing, however, that's the problem...if it involves sweat, I don't like it!!!! Oh well, maybe this too will change one day.

Hello Ladies!
Luddybell and Ms. Pat - you two are on the move!
Ms. Pat, that's so great that you get all that walking around in your day. It must really keep your metabolism up.
Me? I'm a certified slug.
Not by choice, but by circumstances. I'm so tired all the time. My metabolism must be somewhere in reverse because I never feel like I get enough sleep. I sit in classes all day on Mon, Wed, and Fri. and then on Tues. and Thurs. and Sat. I sit at my computer and write. My current exercise routine consists of walking back and forth to my car. I have tried several times in the past month or so to implement an exercise routine, but I can't seem to get it off the ground for one reason or another. I'm not consistent. When I'm done with finals on June 12th (in two weeks! Yikes!) I really plan on getting serious about that. I want to exercise every day. They say it takes 21 days to reinforce and adopt a new habit. I'm hoping that I'll be back in the groove so that my school life doesn't overwhelm me and monopolize my time again in the fall. Not to mention I should be in better shape and not feel so tired all the time.
I still haven't found my tape measure, but it's coming...
I've never experienced that metallic taste in my mouth. Then again, I don't use the strips to see if I'm in ketosis - so maybe I should check that out. It might help me find my carb. limit. Ever since I started messing around with my carbs I've been stalled. It has been six weeks!!!!!!!!!! It looks like I'm going to have to stay at 20 g./carbs a day if I want to lose any weight. At least until I start exercising. Bummer.
Charran, I've also found that if I eat a high fat/protein meal that I can sneak in a "cheat" and it doesn't effect my blood sugar! Not something I plan on capitalizing on, but nice to know for those special occasions. Plus, it helps me out psychologically to know that I CAN have that "bad" food (in moderation) and not necessarily compromise my health so long as I tag it on to a meal. This way I don't have that feeling of deprivation and depression by telling myself "I can never eat that again."
P.S. I'm an outdoor girl myself (despite my recent acquaintance with laziness!), but one thing I hope I never have to do - ever - is sleep on the ground again! I don't mind sweating (which is a good thing because I sweat profusely when I exercise), but I hate lying on the ground. I wish I didn't because the whole rest of the experience is so relaxing and romantic and meditative - the whole being one with nature vibe. But sleep outside? Then I want to go to a hotel!
I have a question for everyone -
Are you doing Fitday.com and if so - how much fiber do you typically eat and do you take a fiber supplement? I'm wondering how important this is to weight loss. I know Atkins recommends a supplement, but I'm already taking a handful of pills!
This is what I take (in case any of you are interested!)
Fisol fish oil
Vitamin E
Vitamin C
aspirin
Centrum multi-vitamin
Potassium
Citracal (calcium and Vitamin D)
plus a couple of herbal supplements because apparently (according to my new accupuncturist who was highly recommended to me) I have a Yin deficiency!?!?!?
I'm just curious what you guys take -
Atkins has a whole list of things to take but I don't know where to begin and where to end. Not to mention how expensive they are!
Sorry my post is so long! I guess I make up for not posting every day by "purge" posting!
Hope everyone has a great low-carb day!
Kris

BBG,
Don't feel bad about not exercising, I put a health glider in my room, which is good for hanging my clothes on, I bought two step aerobic tapes on line which are fun to watch, I have a slim-slide that's hidden under a bunch of junk in the basement; bottom line I'm not using any of it.
The exercise that I get is from walking at work, mowing the lawn and going up and down the stairs to do laundry. One of these days I'll get in gear and really exercise (yeah right LOL). I did good all week except one day that I couldn't pass up a steak burger with the bun, fries and cole slaw, but I still lost another pound this week. I'm down to 181.
I had to go to a meeting yesterday and realized that the only clothes that fit are four pairs of jeans that I recently bought. I spent two hours in my closet trying to find dress clothes and finally found a skirt that was too big, but I wore it anyway and covered it with a long suit jacket.
I ran into people that I hadn't seen in years and they raved about how much weight I had lost and other people called me today because the people I ran into spread the word. This made me feel great and more determined to keep this up.
I don't do fitday or keep track of my fiber, I just watch the carbs. As for supplements, I'm taking Chroma Slim Apple Cider Vinegar Plus which has:
Chromium
Vitamin B-6
Grapefruit
Soy Lecithin
Apple Cider Vinegar Complex
They cost about $5 at my local grocery store in the diet aisle. I've found that I lose faster if I eat a high carb meal at least once a week, not any sweets or anything just maybe some bread or potatoes with my meat and salad. I think the Chromium speeds up your metabolism.
Good luck with finals!
Talk to you soon

Gm All!!!! Well I have decided that Protein Power is the thing for me to try. I think I have basically been experimenting with it anyways, without knowing it, with increasing protein and carbs. I plan on starting Tuesday. I have to go shopping Monday and get more readily available protein sources available. Also its my anniversary on Monday and we're going out for Chinese food. Not sure how great an idea that is, but oh well. Went out and bought a bunch of new clothing for summer. DH thought that my other stuff was looking abit baggy, so he took me shopping last night and made me buy some new stuff. Funny thing is though, with 24 pounds gone, I didn't get to buy a different size. What's with that? I'm going to try and be really committed so that by time Fall comes, I'll be able to get some new things in a different size. Hopefully the Protein Power will help me out with that. Also, I have to be stricter about my exercise. I've kind of been slacking off in that department too. Glad to see everyone posting again!

So glad to see you back posting Geri and can't wait to hear about the new guy. Go on the date and have fun and don't worry about the age thing "Age ain't nothing but a number"
I've got my usual exercise today; mowing the lawn and scrubbing the grill. My family's decided that they would barbecue at my house. They bought all of the meat and charcoal and I'll make the side dishes.
I met a guy while in Michigan and he called to say that he want's us to meet at a resort half way between Chicago and Michigan.
It's funny that he wants to talk to me, he runs races and marathons and is completely physically fit. While I on the other hand don't even jog. Oh, well they say opposites attract.
I've got to find a way to tell the "friend" that I've been seeing at home when I do go on my get-away. He's the type that would call my house a dozen times call my mother and search the globe if he can't find me so it's easier just to tell him so that he won't be looking for me. Who knows, maybe that's just what he needs to give him a kick in the butt and get him past the "friend" thing. We've been "friends" for two years, I think it's about time for a committment on his part, not marriage but the ability to use the word "relationship" instead of "friendship"
Well gang summers here and all I'm seeing on the racks are those god awful flowered summer dress, but we've got to come out of these jeans and show some legs.
Geri you've got that new hair cut and manicure, treat youself to something sexy for your date. I felt so sexy when I wore a leather skirt and a nice pair of pumps last week that had been in my closet for a couple of years.
It's so great seeing you guys posting, talk to you soon.

Hope you have a good Memorial Day, my family came over yesterday and we had a great time. I cooked sooooo much food; and didn't eat much of anything.
My girfriend came over that told me about Atkins. I hadn't seen her in about 3 years. She's doing Atkins for the protein because she's decided she wants to be a body builder. She goes to the gym everyday and get this, this little chick has lost 27 lbs and has a size "24" waist. She looked so good.
We had a great time and I tried to send all of the food home with everybody. They packed a lot of plates to take with but I've still got a lot left. I'm going to freeze the meat but I'll eat it very sparingly because of the hidden carbs in the barbecue sauce.
I bet you're going to look great in that new outfit, I love fuscia, my sister had a little sporty dress, kind of like a long version of a baseball jersey, I told her come September it's mine.
I think when I lose the rest of the weight I'm going to do something really fun, like go on a cruise or something. My sister has a tattoo of a set of tiger paws going up the side of her thigh I might even do that.
Talk to you soon.

I want to check out the results already though. Getting impatient! I just soooooo much hope I can get that scale moving again. I'd love to be able to buy a new Fall wardrobe in a different size. Hope everyone is doing good here.

I hope PP is working for you, I've done real good this week, no cheats other than some watermelon which was sooooo good.
I'm still losing and getting that "this is too good to be true" feeling.
I weighed this morning and I'm at 179. Its almost TOM so I'm not going to weigh again until the end of next week because I know it'll probably go up 2-3 lbs between now and next Wed and then go back down by Sat.
For some reason, I am having horrible sugar cravings I guess PMS and my forehead is breaking out, I've never had acne. I think I need to increase the water.
The old "friend/boyfriend" is starting to really aggravate me. Every day he has some comment about me losing weight. His comments are not negative but he keeps saying that he doesn't want me to lose any more and that he wants the same woman that he met, etc. He can forget it and learn to deal with his own insecurities. I tried to explain that what a person looks like on the outside has nothing to do with their personality or who they are.
He doesn't realize that the more he talks the more determined I am to get slim and trim. So he's actually motivating me to stay on track.
See you soon.

Hey Shama,
I read that thread a couple of time, I think I'll go there right now and join. If it weren't for this forum I don't know what I'd do. I don't have any friends or anyone that I know that LC.
I loaned my DANDR book to a lady at work about a month ago and she hasn't started and hasn't returned my book, I was in the grocery store today, so I just bought another one and believe me I won't be loaning it out to anyone.
The Purple Heart veterans will be picking up used clothing and household items in 4 weeks, so I'm going to go through all of my clothes and get rid of everything that's too big. I'm done with holding on to stuff with the idea that I might need it again. I don't want to need my "big girl" clothes again.
I went to the Atkinscenter.com site and found the journal that I started when I first started this WOE. I hadn't been back to that site since I found this one. Anyway I found my starting measurements and realized that I had lost 3" bust, 2" waist, and 2" hips in addition to the 33lbs to date (179) I was happy about that.
Have a great weekend everybody

Luddybell you're ahead of your mini-goal for June. WTG
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Glad the whoosh fairy came to visit you. Shannon I bet you've lost too. Why don't you check your weight today since we're starting the June Challenge and don't weigh again till next Sunday.
I'm holding at 179 but that's fine considering TOM. I was ambitious and packed up my big clothes and called for them to be picked up. I couldn't help trying them on one last time to see if there was anyway possible to get away with wearing them.
I filled up 4 30gallon garbage bags. I've got four pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of dress pants and 3 summer dresses left. I don't mind wearing big shirts, I just tuck them in so I did manager to keep about 50 shirts.
I'm not buying anything else until I can fit a 14. I'm guessing that I'll be able to fit a 14 some where around 165 lbs, so I've got to lose 14lbs hopefully by July 15th.
I've already downed 32 oz of water this morning which is a record for me. I'm up for the June challenge. I'm doing another two week quality review at work this week and next so I know I'll get my 3 miles of walking in each day.
Girls we are on the way to "slimness" I haven't weighed 160 lbs since 1987. I weighed about 190 and wanted to try out for the police department. They did a body fat caliper test and told me my target was 158 and gave me 6 weeks to lose.
I went on a liquid "Dick Gregory" diet and lost the weight, changed my mind about being a police woman, gained the weight back in 2 months and have never tried to lose again until now.
Talk to you guys soon.

Hey everybody,
I'm still around, hope everyone's doing great. I've been so busy this week, I haven't posted, watched TV and for that matter I haven't eaten enough.
I'm doing my field reviews (work) but this time I didn't have to go out of town, but I did have to drive about 200 miles each day this week. I'm up at 4:30, leave home by 5:30 and I haven't been back at home and through working until about 9:00 PM.
So, for the past week, no breakfast, small lunch (usually a Mc Donalds salad and no dinner and since I'm out all day, not very much water. I'll probably stall for sure, because I know I'm not getting enough calories or fat.
Well I am getting my 4 and 5 mile walk in each day while working. I'm so tired at the end of the day, I'm too tired to sleep. Thank GOD only 3 more days of this next week and I can concentrate on me.
Geri,
I didn't remember you saying you were going to a family reunion but our thread has grown so big, I've probably missed a few posts. Hope you had a good time. Forget about how much you cheated. If I were on vacation I'd do the same thing. I am thinking about taking a week's vacation just to rest. I've got 5 weeks of vacation time to take and the year is already half over.
Shannon,
Luddybell,
How's the challenge coming? I did try a new recipe, I tried that mock danish and it was actually pretty good. I had it with a couple of sausages one day on the weekend. I guess I'll wait and weigh in on Sunday. I think I'm going to spend all weekend in the house and be a bum.
Talk to you guys soon.

How are my buddies today?
Well, I weighed and didn't lose a pound just as I suspected I wouldn't, I've been stuck at 179 for two weeks. I know how to fix that.
I bought one of those FLEXBALLS, and two resistance bands; one for your thighs and one for your upper body. I plan to exercise at least 1/2 hr each day to start.
After this week, I'll be finished with my field reviews and I'll be able to eat right and drink my water.
Hope you guys have been on track and losing.

low carb cheescake
8-12 ozs cream cheese ..i like to use 12 ozs but 8 is really plenty
1/2 pint of heavy whipping cream
5-6 packs splenda
1tblspn vanilla
pecans or almonds crushed for crust
crush almonds or pecans in food processor ..mix with melted butter and spread in bottom of 9-10 in pie pan
beat whipping cream till slightly stiff add splenda and vanilla then add cream cheese beat together
pour in pie shell and refrigerate ...very easy and quick
i also used strawberry cream cheese ...it has a few more carbs but ios good for a change i also put lemon flavored sf jello in it once which was good too
it has approx 6 -7 carbs per serving not exactly sure but really depends on what u add and how much cream cheese u use but its the best cheesecake i have tried so far

Hi there Geri,
i guess were both in the same boat, I fudged over the weekend and up till today. I was losing weight, and then I cheat, I guess I'm afraid of changing, even though I really want to. Go figure!
But Im back at it, my relatives are coming tomorrow, and I'm hoping I can stick to this. The challenge this month, no cheats I mean, is good for me, I think I need more challenges, it'll help me stay on track hopefully. Dont worry about the cheats, youre back and that what counts. Good luck to you, and its nice to see you again, and hope that you enjoyed your reunion. Talk to you soon!

Hey Geri,
That cute young guy you met wouldn't have anything to do with joining the gym now would it ;) . I've been on the forum off and on during the past week. I thought my computer was on the blink and spent 3 days on the phone with all kinds of Technical Support folks, uninstalled programs, used dial-up instead of my cable modem and then found out the darn cord was loose in the back of my computer.
Oh, well I'm back on line now. I finally broke down and bought 4 summer dresses, they were on sale for 15.00 and I bought a bathing suit. Two pieces but the bottom has a little skirt attached. Not quite ready for an all out two piece yet (need to work on these flabby thighs).
I'm still doing Atkins but during the past week, I've had a dessert with two of my meals. I figured if I ate it within the hour then it was technically a CAD reward meal. It didn't stop me from losing and I realized that I miss having dessert now and then.
I haven't lost but two pounds in the last month or so but then again I haven't been the strictest dieter in the world either.
Congrats on getting in gear and joining the gym. To tell you the truth I'm kind of embarrased to go because believe it or not I've never gone to a gym and I don't want to look stupid because I don't know what to wear or how to use any of the equipment.
I have a friend that goes and says she'll take me with her, I told her I'll go at a time of day when there is really no one else there until I feel comfortable using the equipment around other people.
Talk to you soon.

I have no idea what happened to me. I was so busy with school and my diet went to hell there for a while - although I didn't gain any weight!?!?!?!? And I got all A's so I'm on the Dean's list at school!
Regardless, I'm back and I'm ready to get serious again.
Congratulations to everyone who have been doing their thing and have either lost weight, exercised, or just been taking good care of themselves! I'm so glad to see you're all doing well.
I'm so excited to be rejoining you guys!

How you guys doing today? I worked in the yard for about 5 hours, that's going to have to do for exercise today, boy am I tired. Geri, I have seen a Curve's here. I'll look in the yellow pages and see if there's one close to me. Me and 6 other women started working at the telephone company together 16 years ago and we meet up once a year for a "hen party". We met up yesterday and they couldn't get over me being "so thin" . They were the ones always dieting and I was the one who couldn't care less about weight and I was almost the smalles one now.
YEAH!
Bellybgone,
Congrats on all the A's and making the Deans List. That is great. I was thinking about going back to school and looked on line at the University of Phoenix, heck they want over $400 per credit hour, thats over $1,200 per class. I think I'll look at going to a local college. Are you planning to start Induction again, if so let me know and I'll do it with you for support. Who knows, I might even get lucky and lose 10lbs during the two weeks of induction.
I've stayed between 179 and 177 for the past month and I've lost that high energy level that I had in the beginning so Induction may be just the thing I need.
I'm glad you guys are back, have a good week

How are my buds today? Boy, was it hot here today, the heat index was over 100. Well, I finally lost 2 more pounds. Down to 175 and find it hard to believe because I've been eating whatever carbs I wanted since Saturday.
I have been having my slice of cheesecake for dessert with my evening meal everyday, but I don't do any snacking and eat a completely meal, and my one other Complimentary Meal so I guess the CAD plan works just as well as Atkins.
At least it broke the stall that I've been in for the past month. I still may go back to Induction if I slow down again.
Geri,
I still haven't found a Curve's yet, but I need it because I'm feeling "squishy" and need to tighten up a bit. Congrats on having the willpower to stick with the plan, you'll ge at goal before you know, just hang in there.
Talk to you soon.

Hi there everyone,
I havent been here for awhile, sorry, company was here for 2 weeks in June, they left on the 27th, so life has gotten back to normal, feels good.
Wow, geri, its great that you are exercising now, it gives you sooo much energy. I have been really slack in the exercise, I did some when my company was here, but not like I was. And boy did I ever cheat!!!! I was really upset with myself, but I came to terms with it and now I have to get back on the wagon. I'm waiting till after the 4th cuz I know there will be lots of food to eat, we have a big party with lots of friends and theres always lots of food. Then I can get back to being serious. Best of luck to you and everyone here, lets keep this thread going, Ive missed all of you.
Take care all of you, and have a happy 4th!!!!!!

Hey Geri, Shama and everybody,
I was out of touch for a couple of days, my cable company switched over from AT&T to Comcast and I've spent the past couple of days getting my E-Mail and computer all straight. Then I came to the site and everythings had changed.
I'm doing great, waiting for a big whoosh to come; I've had this horrible steely taste for the past couple of days and nothing will take it away; I've used mouth wash, drank gallons of water and everything.
I've been sticking to the diet, still following the CAD so that I can have my reward meal each day and it's been going great. It's TOM so I have my usual water weight gain.
I had a meeting with my boss on yesterday and I hadn't seen him in about two months. He said "Pat you're wasting away" then I saw a former co-worker that I hadn't seen in over a year and he walked right by me. YEAH!
These hips still need a 16 pants but I'm down to a 14 in shirts. I really didn't want to loose any "boobs".
I hope you guys have a safe and happy 4th
Talk to you soon.

I'm soooo proud of you, send the whoosh fairy over to me plzzzzzzz!!!!
I just got a new scale and I think I like the old one better!!! If you know what I mean, keep up the great work, and you'll reach your goals!!
What are you eating? Let me know cuz I have to get in sync with my body and figure what will work, I've been having trouble since June, when I cheated terribly. I'm regretting it now, but have to move on, I know.
So glad that you are back, I missed you, and I am sooooo happy for you!
Hope you have a wonderful rest of the day!! Talk to you soon!!

hey shannon glad to see u :yay: ....ihave been missing you guys ....i have been eating
for breakfast usually eggs or an omlet and bacon ...lunch is usually a piece of chicken and veggioes or a salad with chicken or maybe a hamburger patti ...dinner ..well i am not usually hungry so lots of times i just have a snack like a couple pieces of cheese And some bologna or ham
when i do eat dinner it usually consists of meat and veggies one thing i do have at least twice a week is a piece of low carb cheese cake it helps with the sweet cravings ...i think adding in the exercise has really helped i go to curves 3 times a week and try to do the power walking at least twice a week and ive been doing better on my water ..i have my bad days believe me ...but its kinda just the way i eat now ....i just dont buy alot of foods i cant have since my daughter is doing low carb too i dont have alot of junk in the house which makes it easier ...i am not trying to rush the weight off altough it would be nice i had to just decide it was going to take some time and to just hang in there ..if i want something i have it i just dont eat alot of it usually just a few bites will do me and get me over wanting it ....i ordered some of the atkins stuff online and im waiting for it to arrive like the keto spaghetti and pancake mix mostly for my daughter ....im anxious to find out how the spaghetti is have u tried it ?? ..shannon i know u will make it to your goals it just takes determination im just tired of being fat ....im 43 yrs old and going thru menopause ..which i thought i was too young for but i know for a fact now that i am i dont want to grow old before my time ....i want to keep my youth for as long as possible and i figure if i dont take this weight off now i may have an even harder time if i keep goofing off ....ty for dropping in i have sure missed tlaking to you all and i will try to do better about posting ....hang in there!!!!as i will too

Hi, I'm Alix
I've been on atkins for about 2 weeks now--and last night I was really craving sweets--and I lost control and ate way too much and now I feel terrible. I'm so worried that I'll get on the scale and will have gained all the weight back. Doing the diet is pretty hard because I'm in college= so everywhere I go I am surrounded by junk food-- there is even a vending machine in my hallway that I have to walk by every time I go to my room. I've heard that having a buddy system can help-- any room for me to join the group?-- You all seem so nice and I really want to lose some weight so I can wear a bikini this summer.
Thanks,
Alix
