Does anyone know if peas are allowed in phase 1?

Don't think so. They are pretty high in starch.

sorry to disagree - the contradictions of Montignac ;)

Peas have a GI of roughly 45 and a Glycemic load of about 3.

They are pretty high sources of fiber and protein compared with other veggies.
for 80 gram serving, 7 g of carbs

Sources mendosa site lists and New Glucose Revolution lists.

Traditionally, montiganc phas 1 asks for overall meal values of less than 30 GI - but he ignores the GL in that, cos its a newer thang.

If the rest of the meal you were serving it with was really low GI - then I think you'd be ok, but if you are wanting to be super strict - I'd say pick something with a lower GI.

I thoroughly recommend you looking at Mendosa - there is a comprehensive list (over 700 foods) measured for GI and GL.

Then, I won’t go out of my way to avoid it but will wait until phase 2 to eat it in large amount.

Thank you so much for clearing this point up for me.

I wondered about them myself, being familiar with the Weight Watchers classification of veggies where ones like peas and tomatoes are limited to 4 oz per day whereas others are unlimited. But as Spang said the book lists them as ok, both types of peas - dried and fresh/frozen green. Good thing too I luv peas. :D
