How long does it take from when you consume a gas producing
food..beans, nuts etc. until you experience flatulence? I have
been told hours..but I seem to eat certain foods and am gassy
several minutes afterwards.I thought the food has to travel
throug the GI tract until fermenting in the colon before the
gas is produced. I would really appreciate some clarification
if possible.

Thanks, Ken

Some things no doubt work faster. As an example if I put milk
or cream in my coffee. it produces gas very soon. Very painful
gas - so now I drink my coffee black and never use milk and
coffee together..

Hi Ken-- you can have gas produced/ released in the upper GI
tract that result in increased distension and belching.
Carbonated beverages are a classic example but reactions of
foods with gastric acid and foods with bicarb in the proximal
small bowel can add to the gas in the upper GI tract. Air
swallowing and bacteria harbored in the stomach and small
intestine may also result in increased upper GI gases. Pete

I've wondered about and noticed the same things.

Sometimes only a few seconds.

Indeed sometimes I fart just /before/ eating those beans ;-)
