I have a thread out there now stating I'm thinking of switching to P.P. from Atkins. I know with P.P. you need a certain amount of protein, based on your body ... situation. How do I calculate that. I have Dr. Atkins book, but I have yet to get the P.P. book since I just decided yesterday to probably make the switch.

Actually, I know I have to do something different, I'm just not sure what yet. Maybe P.P. isn't for me. I'm just looking for some information right now, until I decide.

Thanks... I appriciate it. :daze:

Your minimum protein requirement is a number that is found based on calculations from the book. It's based on your body fat and your lean body mass - your activity level is also taken into account. So, you do need the book :)

Regardless of the plan you choose I highly recommend the Eades' first book, Protein Power. It should be required LC reading, IMHO. It will answer all your questions about how and why LC works.

Actually, I like both books--good companions to one another. The first one is better about what and how, the other explains why.

LOL, I like their latter book best. Although they are both the best LC books I've read to date, I prefer their 2nd book b/c the research is newer and they made a couple of ideological changes away from the first book. As well, I thought their explanation on insulin resistance is the best I've read anywhere.

Disneyfan, if you are switching, I'd also recommend reading both books in the order they were published. They aren't redundant. However, I've heard it critiqued that the first book is a little more technical than the second book (for the technically-challenged ;) ).

Even if you don't switch to PP, they are excellent references to have on hand. I'm always referring to them. And I've read each of them twice over. They are both dog-earred and highlighted. ;) From the beginning of my LC journey, I've aspired to switch over to PP when I can tolerate eating more carbs without sabotaging my sugar addiction. It's a process in work.

The Eades also have a website: www.eatprotein.com you can check out.
