Does anyone have tips or just want to put in their 2 bobs worth on Protein Shakes.
I am new to LC and have been using Modifast when I have not had time to have breakfast.
Is there a preferred shake (i.e slim fast)? Or just some information on your experiences would be helpful.
This is my first post.
Cheers

Hello Clairty and welcome to the board. I prefer the "whey protein isolate" type of shake, and preferably, sweetened with Splenda. That means that you are getting pretty good protein.
There are many brands. Designer Protein is widely available. Just read the label and expect about 22 gm protein with 2-3 carbs per serving - usually one scoop (and the scoop is supplied in the tin.) I buy a brand called Iso-Pro which has splenda and a higher protein count.
Be wary of Slim Fast shakes. They aren't what I'd consider LC. They may be low fat but I believe that many of the calories come from some kinds of sugar.
I put about 2 ounce of water and 2 ounces of cream in a blender, add the powder and whirl. If I have ricotta at home, I add a big spoon of that, and then a couple of ice cubes. chocolate is my favourite flavour but I like vanilla too. There are some that come without flavour, so you can add your own sugar-free syrups.

I use Designer Whey protein powder--chocolate flavor (I cant stand the vanilla!).
If I'm in a rush, or I just finished a workout....I'll just throw a scoop or two in a mixer-cup and add 8 oz of water per scoop, and a packet of half n half (or cream if you have it). It doesnt taste GREAT this way, but sort of like watered down chocolate milk.
If I just want a tasty shake while adding some protein I make a slightly better tasting version in a blender.
2 scoops powder
ice
water
about a teaspoon of instant coffee (mix with the water)
a little cream
a packet or 2 of splenda
1 raw egg (it helps the texture...I swear you cant taste it!)
This version tastes just like an iced mocha coffee. The coffee takes away the slight protein aftertaste.
Hope that was some help!
See ya,
Michelle
